David M. Dorrin II was born April 30th 1983 in St. Louis Mo.. His father left town when he was 2, leaving his mother to raise him and his sister as a single mother in South City. They bounced around from home to home, sometimes staying in Florida with grandparents, until returning to St. Louis at the age of 10.
After returning to St. Louis David met Russell, 2 years younger than he, who would become a lifelong friend and confidant to David. This was when David was introduced to the urban world of Hip-Hop. Russell came over to his house with a cassette tape and a Casio keyboard and showed him a track that he had created and recorded generically on a tape with a karaoke machine, all at the age of 8. David became interested in learning how to make a track and more about what went into the process of making a beat.
By now David’s home life had been disrupted by a new stepfather who had no intentions of letting David continue the life he once knew. To avoid emotional ridicule and physical abuse from his stepfather David would spend hours together with Russ at Russ’ house, cementing their friendship and nascent musical partnership. They played side by side, listening to each other free style and rap into a mic and making recordings off their karaoke machine. Their friends laughed at them and told them they had no career and they needed to give it up, but Russ and David persisted in pursuing their dream.
In 2003 David and Russ attended a show in St. Louis and were offered a few minutes on the mic. They were surprisingly applauded with a warm response and the other acts complimented them for their new sound.
David left for the Job Corps in late 2003 where he met and became friends with people from around the U.S. and the world. During his brief stint with Job Corp he had access to a center with a studio that included a keyboard, mic, and some other instruments. David began learning to make beats and was getting the attention of some local talent. He was influenced by the Down South City style and the attitude of the West Coast Flavor. David was featured in a show put on by the Job Corps with more than 3500 students from around the world. David was now known as the “white boi wit styleâ€. David’s time with Job Corps ended shortly after his brief bout with performing due to “unacceptable behavior.â€
David returned to St. Louis where he was informed that Russ had invested in a computer and some recording software so they could make CD’S. This would be the start of David’s focused dedication to a career as a producer, songwriter, and performer: a hip-hop triple-threat. One night while freestylin a guy told him he looked like a “thermometer about to bust†because his face was so red. Hence, the name “Tempature Beats†was born, the name by which David is known as an artist today, commonly referred to as “Temp†for short.
Temp began working very hard to learn how to record vocals over beats he had made and use effects on voices (i.e. engineering). Russ composed a beat and they wrote the verses and formatted their first song. It wasn’t really that good, and still needed a lot of work, but they now knew the formula to creating songs with a concept and not just freestylin.
Temp, now 19 was working hard to create a sound that would sell his first mix tape. Meanwhile, Russ began a job for a local Radio Station called 100.3 The Beat/Urban League with Will Goldsmith and DJ Kaos in St. Louis. Will sent Russ home one day with Pro Tools, an Akai drum machine, and other software and told them “This will make your music have better qualityâ€. Turning the space under their stairs into a “studio†and with the help of their new equipment to enhance their sound, Temp and Russ made their first mix tape under the production name UTS (Under the Stairs). Not having marketing experience, the duo gave their CD’s away to friends to play at parties.
While roaming around Northwest Plaza on a weekend Temp met an established airbrush artist who worked with big names when they were in town creating airbrush effects on clothes. Temp was present one day when a local music artist came in to the shop and invited him to his music video shoot.
Eventually this led to Temp networking with platinum producers and Grammy Award winning songwriters/producers. Temp soon found out the hard way how tough the music industry was when an artist stole a hook and concept from him and recorded it themselves. Without any knowledge about the details of the business of music, he was not copyrighting his music or lyrics. A lesson well learned the hard way that Temp took to heart.
He started performing with local talent, got a Music MySpace to start a fan base, and started learning to think like a businessman; hence, the beats and lyrics on this page are all copyrighted.
In Early 2008 Temp called a longtime friend of the family who lived in Arizona to ask them if they would assist him preparing a business plan. He arrived in Arizona a few days later. Not knowing where the road would lead him next he sat down and devised a plan. This time Temp was determined to make an impact and pursue the career he had always dreamed.
Temp is currently residing in Arizona where he has started performing at local night clubs and opening for local artists. He is working on his first album due to be released in March of 2009.Get your page designed today! By HOLLOW WEARTEMPaTURE BEATS
