About Me

"A LOVE LIKE THIS" is an anointed collection of praises filled with joy and songs that worship in the Spirit - a taste of heaven that leaves you wanting to reach a higher level, experience more Jesus and stay in that wonderful place with God Himself! Seletcions include A Love Like This; War Cry; For Every Mountain; Cast All your Cares; Precious Lord, Take My Hand; His Eye Is On The Sparrow; I Know The Plans; Splendor Of Your Majesty; I Go To The Rock and I Surrender All. Merribeth Stitt Deaton grew up in a world saturated with all genres of music: hymns, big bands, jazz, symphonies and even an occasional 45rpm of Elvis. Strains of heavenly music from her father’s saxophone and her mother’s piano playing consistently permeated the atmosphere in the parsonage. As the only child of Pastor Jerry and Evalyn Stitt, the music of God’s soul and the poetry of God’s word were planted deeply within her and nurtured from early childhood. Music became her purpose in life, whether studying with coaches or singing in rock bands. With her incessant drive to experience the music, God’s gift developed over the years, wowing her audiences, winning state competitions and talent shows. She sang her way through life and many adverse situations meant to block the victory of Jesus. Thank God that He prevails and has honed and sculpted Merribeth into a worshipper, seeking to enter into precious, intimate communion with the Lord, preparing the way for the presence of the Holy Spirit. She sings praises to God with pure infectious joy, giving thanks for the power of overcoming through His son Jesus that He has given us. After hearing Merribeth’s versions of “War Cry” and “For Every Mountain,” Myron Butler exclaimed, ”This is excellent - what power! ! It resonates and I am just awestruck! These are high energy songs and you execute them flawlessly! You have stamina, vocal ability, pizzazz, IT! God never ceases to amaze us - He packages His gifts and His callings and His worship in multiple shades of colors and - we thank you, Merribeth, for being a blessing to the body!” John Mays from Centricity Records said, of Merribeth, “This is real gospel music - what you hear at a real gospel church on Sunday mornings, and you’re doing a great job at it. You’re re-creating the songs each time you sing and you’re doing a fantastic job. God is opening doors and your job now is to be faithful - go into any situation and just blow the roof off the thing - Stand the hair up on people’s heads and blow their ties back, so they leave and go, “was she white?” Minister Russell Thompson, City of Refuge Church and KWWJ radio personality commented, “Merribeth Stitt Deaton is a gifted musician and ardent worshiper. Her gift transcends any cultural barriers and when she worships, she ushers in the presence of the Lord with her anointing and passion for Jesus. She has ministered in diverse settings and has a repertoire for any situation, from church to outreach to performance. Her sweet spirit and submission to leadership make her an ideal addition to any worship service or ministry with a powerful testimony that will touch people's hearts. Merribeth is clearly gifted and called by God to minister His love and healing with her voice as well as her life.” Merribeth’s father, Reverand Jerry Stitt, brilliantly accompanies her in this first project as a seasoned and inspired saxophonist. He puts another incredible talent to work, actually whistling an accompanying part on “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” While pastoring St. John's United Methodist Church in downtown Houston, he led afternoon worship frequently joined by Kirk Whalum, Arnette Cobb, Bobby Wellborn and others. Merribeth gives all the glory to the Lord, stating, “I thank God that He has purposed me to share His love and His spirit. He enters the atmosphere to prepare the hearts of worshippers for receiving God’s multitudes of blessings He has for His children. This overwhelming love and grace can only be from God himself! My desire is that He uses me mightily to touch and mend hearts, inspire worship and ultimately save souls for the glory of the Kingdom. I invite you to come and experience God intimately and joyfully with me!” Merribeth has had the privilege to work with Kurt Carr, Micah Stampley, Bill and Renee Morris, and is a member of Pastors Gary and Toni Oliver’s Tabernacle of Praise Church in Benbrook, outside Fort Worth, TX. Merribeth’s phenomenally creative and talented son Jeremy will begin attending Texas State Technical College for Computer Science. My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Merribeth Stitt Deaton
Influences: Aretha Franklin, Laura Nyro, Barbra Striesand, Bryan Duncan, Anointed, Gary Oliver, Israel Houghton - there are so many instruments, including the voice, that are profoundly beautiful when played in the polyphonic style. The slurs, runs and arpeggios are meant to create expression - any dynamic can be beautiful and meaningful. The music should make you thank God, say "WOW!" or pull on your heart until you are moved. That's what it's all about - communicating, engaging and moving your heart. That's what Jesus is all about, and He does it for me.
