following the release of the classic album "Voodoo". Aside from other notable releases by the likes of Jill Scott, Rahsann Paterson, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, John Legend, and a few other like minded individuals from the Soulquarian camp soul music has been in a dire state of mediocraty, led by an ensemble of one hit wonders and plastic soundalikes. Voodoo was one of the last full concept albums in the vein of Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life" or Marvin Gaye's "I Want You": albums that require a listen from start to finish, not just a record of few recognizable hits and unfinished fillers.To make up for lost time until D'angelo's new album arrives, Rod Skimmins, Andycapp and Special guest Waajeed of the Platinum Pied Pipers have come together to create a bimonthly at the Rivoli, fusing the raw, dirty, sweaty sounds that have both referenced and been influential to that classic record.Expect to hear music from contemporary soul artists and their predecessors such as Jill Scott, Stevie, Larry Blackmon, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Mos Def, Badu, Marvin, Prince, Anthony Hamilton, Common, Bilal, J Dilla, Maxwell, Cymande, Fela Kuti, Patrice Rushen and many more.
