I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

At the tender age of forty-two, I'm sure that I am well past the median age of myspace users. Does that make me sad? Does it make you mad? Don't be. Forty is the new thirty, remember? Hell at that rate I guess I just metaphorically moved out of my parents' basement, which is where most of you are probably reading this. So there.I'm currently the owner (along with my lovely spouse of nearly 20 years, Jenn McCallister) of a retail clothing store called Loose Lucy's. I also write fiction, and have completed three novels and about two dozen short stories; I recently won Pearl magazine's 2006 Short Story Competition, and will see first publication in the winter of 2007.I also currently write a column (5 Points Confidential) for a local alt weekly called Columbia CityPaper; my novel King's Highway will be published by Red Letter Press in June of 2007! So, it looks as though that makes me a writer, which is a longtime dream come true for me. UPDATE: My flash-fiction effort "Gravy Skin" will be published in the new, online journal Moonshine in December of 2007.In a previous life, I was a motion picture archivist at the University of South Carolina. For recreation, I used to tour around with the Grateful Dead, those avatars of psychedelia; I'm still recovering from the loss of Garcia these many years later, but the experiences I had (and have) thanks to his art saved me from some dark places. I owe everything I have to my wife and the Dead experience; without either of them I might not be writing this to you today.Besides my longtime wife and best friend, my immediate family also includes nine felines, all unique, all beloved: Katie Mae, Dupree, Woody, Penny Lane, Hannah, L'il Sadie, and the Fellas, three orange tabbys named Reuben, Arthur, and Oliver who are brothers. All of these pets are the cat's meow, pun definitely intended. My friends call me dmac. It must, I repeat, must be spelled with a lower case "d".

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Chris. I keep seeing these bumper stickers that say "Chris is the Answer", so I'm real keen to not only meet this cat, but also to find out the riddle to which only this enigmatic Chris seems to know the solution.Short of that, I'd be way into meeting my doppleganger, who I presume in this case is the yang to my yin.

My Blog

The blog is dead . . .

. . . long live the blog. Look for a dmac wordpress blog soon.

David Foster Wallace

I haven't posted anything about DFW's suicide, which I found devastating. I freely admit that I couldn't finish Infinite Jest. Couldn't? Wouldn't. Something about its post-pomo tone and affectations d...
