Much appreciated! Peace!
Backyardlab formed early 2004 and did our first gig in Sep 04 supporting Down Under Beats Crew at Tris Elies Katoomba.
We originally had Ashtonic on the beats and Massambiance on the turntables till 2006, but after the arrival of 2 beautiful babies (Bailey and Hailey) priorities have changed and since Mc turned Producer Volatyle has taken over the beats with Likewize on co-production and new recruit DJ Phables taking the reigns on the decks, MC Sarin Likewize and Volatyle on the vocals.
Our hiphop is definatley unique, hard hitting and a bit up tempo writing songs ranging from serious thought provoking, to battle tracks, to tounge in cheek punch lines trying not to limit ourselves to any one matter of subject, using various samples from our vast (but not all usable) record collection we are always crate digging.
Doing in excess of 80 shows we are no strangers to the stage and are known for rocking a energetic tight show.
We have supported some of hiphop's finest (international) DJ MK (Roots Manuva) (UK) and the Procussions (USA)
(Local) Def Wish Cast, Funkoars, Delta, Brethren, Celcius, Urthboy, & Ozi Batla, Vents One, Muph&Plutonic ,Drapht, Hijak & Torcha, The Tounge, Scott Burns, Spit Syndicate, Binge Thinkers, Chasm, Down Under Beats, Thundermentals, Herb Rock, Two Toes, Joe New, Dialetrix and Mc Immune, Dj Bonez, Dj Wasabi, Staen One, Dj Myme and the list go's on.
We have also taken up the role of promoters putting on a few live shows importing some interstate acts.
Apart from doing live shows we ran a couple of hiphop workshops based in the Blue Mtns youth centers and are always up for helping out other up and coming acts (without divulging too many secrets)
In 2008 we're putting live shows on the back burner for a short while only doing select gigs to record our long awaited Debut EP.
We do have a few demo's and live recordings out there, but until recently have not hit the studio seriously.
So in the not to distant future keep an ear out for BYL's Debut release SUSTAINING THE ART & also keep an eye out on our myspace or a telegraph pole near you for dates and venues for any up and coming shows.
PEACE.
