lost interest in everything else.
when i finished high school...went to uni for a year, studied electronics...i couldn't afford to buy a Marshall so i figured i could learn to build one. uni was boring...
anyway round the same time i blew up my amp. was told about a Scottish guy, Jim Macleod at line electronics in Melbourne. well...blowing up that amp changed my life.
jim is a bit of a mad genius. could never figure out how he fit all that information in his brain. he had multiple doctrines, worked for abbey rd, pink floyd,midias meyer,ect. Brains. My first impression of Jim was a cross of doc from back to the future and Billy Connolly. i worked for jim for about 7ish years. it was an education i would of got no where else. i'll be forever in debt to him..more than teaching me electronics...he taught me how to listen.
so in late 1998 i was still at line, and a good friend called me...pleading me to come mix his band. i had no idea how to do sound, but i new how the board worked from fixing them, there where amps, speakers, eq's and effects. IT WAS JUST A REALLY BIG GUITAR AMP!! COOL!! so i started working with bands around melbourne and after a couple of years i landed a house gig at the Mercury Lounge in melbourne. Wicked venue..a real gig(miss that room and PA). I was there for about 6 years, working with heaps of aussie and international acts.
so now i kinda do both. still do a lot of amp repair/mods, mostly for the bands i work with..build audio nerd gadgets and amps(when i get time) and tour with bands doing mostly foh but also monitors and guitar/stage tech.
currently i work with mark lizotte(DIESEL)(another audio nerd!!) goodbye motel, Borne, Eyefear,the lost gospel,the final countdown and recently with my marshall stack buds in airbourne. plus heaps of other wicked aussie bands.
