Mayflower Madame

Mayflower Madame is an ensemble consisting of four young men who - formed by the conflicting forces of decadence and vitality in the modern asphalt jungle - express themselves preferentially dark and melancholic, sometimes ecstatic and noisy, but still melodically rooted. ****BIO**** Mayflower Madame was formed several years ago by guitarists Rune and Trond and a hard-hitting drummer called Skeld. They soon became a five-piece and the band started out as a reckless glam-punk act known for their androgynous image and energetic, Jack Daniel’s flavoured gigs. The band eventually matured and had a steady development, but after a few years the musical disagreements luring underneath became obvious. Due to these internal struggles new band members came and went, and in 2006 the band’s future was in hiatus when founding members Rune and Trond were the only ones left. Luckily, they hooked up with the former jazz-kid Petter Gudim on bass, and when powerhouse drummer Ola Jørgen one day mysteriously appeared in the rehearsal room it was instantly clear that Mayflower Madame was no longer a sinking ship. With Trond eventually handling the vocals while still playing guitar, the band was reduced to a tighter, more harmonious and equally ambitious four-piece. Finally the band had a mutual understanding considering the musical direction, and the band wrote a new set of songs reflecting the recent years’ development towards musical maturity while still embracing punk’s attitudes/values and the beauty of a raw and honest sound. ***** Mayflower Madame of 2009 is dark and melancholic, noisy yet melodic. Influences vary from German expressionist art and American beat literature to late 70’s/80’s post-punk and 90’s shoegazer and indie-rock. A somewhat sophisticated blend brewed, distorted and melted into their own distinctive sound. ***** The songs was recorded and mixed in April ("Resuscitate", "Pitfalls") and November ("Hans Jæger" and "A Shade of Grey") 2008 by the band itself in their rehearsal room at Karihaugen, Oslo.
