Hot MySpace Graphics & LayoutsIts a story filled with intrigue but one that would almost guarantee Mandi would take up a career as an artist and musician. Both parents were entertainers, her Dad was a professional singer and toured the world on cruise ships and the club scene and her mum joined the circus when she left home and became a cabaret performer, uncannily they both met on a cruise ship and became a duo performing for over 30 years together, the genes were already at work.
Taking up piano lessons at age 5 and dance classes at age 6, Mandi penned her first original song Windy Valleys. It was in high school that she picked up the guitar and started a duo with her best friend and became Dollshay winning competitions, appearing on Star Struck and playing the usual clubs and pubs around Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.Ever since, Mandi has been gigging at least 3-5 nights a week, which has given her the opportunity to work on her own original materials, road test a few songs and see what audiences respond to. Aside from honing her chops on guitar shes already a seasoned and comfortable performer on stage.Shes opened for David Campbell, Jenny Morris and Glenn Shorrock (little River Band) penned tunes with Jenny and Rick Price and more recently with Sydney guitarist/writer Ash.In 2005, Sydney producer Craig Porteils came across some of Mandis originals and he immediately made contact with her, wanting to see if she would be interested in doing some recordings with him. It was a meeting of minds, Craig loved the songs and pushed Mandi in the right direction both musically and production, they continue to work up new tracks and will have an album ready by mid 2006.Mandis influences are far ranging from Jeff Buckley to Jackson 5, Justin Timberlake to John Mayer, but her style is definitely her own.If there were to be parameters placed on similarities, it would be somewhere between Sheryl Crow to Kelly Clarkson and a bit of Norah and the Waifs in there to boot. But above all, highly commercial in structure, melody and lyric. On first listen, you feel you already know the song, on second listen youre humming the melody, on third listen you feel that youre about to witness a rising star........
