PICTURE ON THE WALL DIRECTORS:
DIRECTOR of 'ROTTEN APPLE' and 'LUNCHBREAK' - Ralitza Petrova
Ralitza grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria, in an 18-storey block, occupied solely by artists. Everyone had a dog, a Lada, a nice stereo, and a mischievous persona. In her teens she studied sculpture, and later developed a growing passion for photography, which led her traveling around the world.
Inspired by the stories and beauty she saw in photographs she felt a strong desire to make her own films. In 1999 she moved to London to study film at the London College of Printing. There she enjoyed experimenting with form and the process of filmmaking. Her graduation film, ‘Don’t Give Up’, got her spotted by Robert Jones (then Head of the UK Film Council Premiere Fund) and she was offered the chance to shadow director Michael Radford on his film ‘The Merchant of Venice’.
Before directing ‘Rotten Apple’, Ralitza was among the winners of the Creative Review Vs Warp Records Competition, giving her a chance to make a music video for artist Gravenhurst. Shot in the style of a short film the video, ‘Lunchbreak’, went onto screen at Cannes International Advertising Festival, OneDotZero, Work In Progress, curated by Freunde der Deutschen Kinemathek, Berlin, and was selected for the 2006 Saatchi & Saatchi Directors’ Showcase.
Ralitza is currently studying an MA in Direction at the National Film & Television School, Beaconsfield UK.
