Music of two cultures from one soul.
A decade ago, Doppo discovered this sound,  when he saw an ancient bamboo flute  hanging as a decoration on the wall of a friend's home. He took it from the wall  and played it, falling in love with its unique, soulful and spiritual sound. He set out to compose something profoundly Japanese  mixed with the spirit of  Western sophistication. He imagined a sound from the 1920s in Japan, when Japan imported its very first piano.  Wealthy high-collared Japanese bought them for their daughters to take lessons.  Soon, Japan built its first College of Music and the bamboo flute, and everything it represented, would be challenged  by wave after wave of Western fashions, fads and Western music, and Japanese culture would never be the same.Doppo Nagata has composed, hoping to capture the spirit of this era, Â
when that soulful Japanese sound first began to melt into
the newly arrived, foreign, Western sound.
