I am here for Friends

About Me

My name is James Jamerson, AKA Igor, AKA the hook (because of how I play electric bass). I was born on January 29th 1938 and died on August 2nd 1993. I got my start on bass playing upright with my friends at Northwestern High in Detroit Michigan. My first love is playing jazz. I got into playing bass at a studio in Detroit that later became "Hitsville USA". With the great help of my friends: Joe Messina, Robert White, Eddie Willis, Earl Van Dyke, Eddie bongo, Jack Ashford, Jack Brokensha, Uriel Jones, Pistol Allen and many more. Me and my friends defined the sound of motown and lead the way for all things R&B. For most of the hits we recorded on in Hitsville, I used my P-Bass. I always take music very seriously but also love practical jokes and having fun with the people I love. My family means the world to me. I love kids because I'm sort of a big kid myself. This sight is designed to show the upmost respect for the king of motown and give Jamerson fans the opportunity to sport the Jamerson friend icon and spread the word about how important he was and still is to bass and music in general. More to come soon.

The reason that this page was created is because when making my own page, as a bass player, I wanted others to be able to see who my inspirations and influences were, but to my dismay, when I searched...
