A lot has changed since HEADSHOTS first hit the streets, but one thing has remained the same: We stay fly, no matter the weather. Or the era. Some things come and go - if you haven't, burn your purple Cross Colours overalls now - but others, like Timberland's classic six-inch construction boots, are timeless. Timberland has been making them since the company's inception in 1973, but it was the explosion (or re-explosion, depending on how you look at it) of New York street rap in the early '90s that stamped the signature boot-print on our style. The all-weather, all-purpose boots were designed to handle work of any kind, so when New York block-huggers were heading out to walk those dogs, they knew exactly what to throw on. These days Timberland is like Kleenex: If it's a boot it's a Timberland, "or my Timbs," regardless of brand. Now that's saying something.
Say what you will about sneaker fiends, but style is about more than what's on your feet (even if you have on the above mentioned Timberlands). And if there's one company that can claim hip hop fashion's top spot, it's New Era.
Founded in 1920, the Buffalo-based company has been making official Major League Baseball caps since 1930. And the fact that New Era is the largest sports-licensed hat company in the world today comes at no surprise - because in out world, New Era is the only cap that counts. With so many variations and hues in the 59FIFTY collection, you can dress like a true clown and still rock a New Era fitted that fits. And though all of us represent cities we've never been to just to make sure the hat hits with the kicks, it's the navy-and-white Yankees look that's the undisputed classic. It goes with everything you own and everything you wish you had.
And so the question remains: Which is more essential? The construction Timberland or the New Era fitted?
Both are essential!
