The aim of this site is to create a central point of contact for women involved in music technology - there aren't enough of us around and we should work together and help each other where we can.
My name is Heidi Manning and I am a graduate from the 'The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts' LIPA with a 1st Class honours degree.
My specialism is within the area of music technology and Computer based Music - I use the following software: Protools, Cubase SX, Reason, Abelton Live, Reaktor, Acid, Traxtor, Virtual DJ and Arkaos.
In addition to this I have my own studio with various pieces of hardware including a Mixing Desk, 3 Synths, Loop Sampler and outboard effects units.
I love using a variety of compositional techniques to create sound-scapes, Sound Sculptures, Junk Music and Experimental Music. I use various technologies when performing on stage including 2 laptops and objects such as drainpipes, balloons and dustbins. In addition to using my studio as an instrument I also produce and engineer work for songwriters, musicians, theatre productions, videos and film.
When I am not teaching, composing and performing - I work extensively as a freelance community musician within a variety of settings ranging from Manchester's ' Halle Orchestra', 'Youth Music projects', 'Assistive Technolgy workshops' and I even spent 3 months in an African Township using Junk and some lo-tech equipment to make music. Through all of this I have produced and facilitated in a range of music including orchestral, World, Hiphop, Trance, House, Drum and Bass, New etc.
I have had articles published and led seminars within the area of Women and Music Technology
I'm also a DJ by the name of DJ Dairylee, I play Cheesey remixes, House, Gay anthems and the latest club choons !! I play at a variety of venues including 'Coyotes' in the gay village in Manchester.
