About Me

Hi, I'm Joseph Anderson, author of The Light Within: A Travel Log of India recently released by Press 53. www.Press53.com.Here's what my publisher is telling folks about me and The Light Within: A Travel Log of India. In December 2004, Joseph Anderson, a trial attorney from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, traveled to India to study yoga with Bikram Choudhury, world-renowned yogi master. Joseph’s father had just died suddenly, but his mother encouraged him to take the trip as planned. He did and along the way, he walked 20 miles every day, out and across the cities of India, witnessing and photographing and coming to love some of the world’s poorest citizens—a child fighting a pig for scraps of garbage; a legless man with a torso the size of a shoebox; a girl walking a tightrope for any spare change passersby would offer. His book The Light Within: A Travel Log of India started as a travel blog meant to relay information to his mother. Press 53 editor, Kevin Watson, came across the blog and couldn’t stop reading it. He contacted Joseph and asked if he would like to publish the blog as a book. For the past year, Kevin and Joseph have worked tirelessly to finish the manuscript. Press 53 has just released the book, and here’s the truly inspiring part of Joseph’s story—HE IS GIVING 100% of HIS ROYALTIES FROM THE SALE OF HIS BOOK THE LIGHT WITHIN: A TRAVEL LOG OF INDIA TO THE CALCUTTA CHILDREN’S PERMANENT FUND, a charity he established upon his return from India. All proceeds go to feed and provide medical necessities to the children of Calcutta. www.calcuttafund.org.
