Me and the Grownups

About Me

Me and the Grownups have been together since November 2006. We released our first album, Battling the Mountains, the Sky and the Sea through Planet/MGM in July 2008. Our second album, Knowing Lovers, Naive Lovers, was released in February 2009 and is in stores now; waiting for your hot little hands to exchange a small portion of legal tender for it. Our backgrounds are diverse – Anita has her roots in singer-songwriting and traditional folk, Adrian is an acoustic guitarist and Dreyfus is a classical violinist, violist and composer. Despite these differences, we share an amazingly similar musical vision.
Me and the Grownups are the most original band you'll hear this year.

Scene Magazine
Amazingly brilliant music.
Jade Wildy

Many bands love to describe themselves as unique and a lot of the time their claims only serve to highlight how much they sound like dozens of other similar bands. Me and the Grownups are a welcome exception to this rule. Their blend of pop, folk and classical defies categorisation and places them on a level above their peers.
Matthew Frederick
The Age
Me and the Grownups’ unique sound brings a new air of class to pop music.
Kate Elrington

...etherial, alternative and commanding. Give them a bunch of commonplace notes and they'll turn them on their ear and give back a song of rare difference.
Mike Gribble
The Adelaide Advertiser
Beauty, as Me and the Grownups perceive it, is the core value, even if that beauty can seem darkly uncomfortable. The rest is the sound, image and dreams of human frailty weaving together.

Gorgeously clean, rich and often minimalist...with an expectation of emotional authenticity that is readily and consistently met. The group’s expressive eloquence shines...with these mature and thematically coherent songs.

It's blood-red melodramatic...positively overflowing with excitable musical ideas.

...a debut of uncompromising confidence and veracity...a deep, enveloping current of music from which it's much harder to escape than you first imagined.
Ben Hermann
Canberra Times
This is no rock’n’roll, guitar/bass/drums trio, that’s for sure - in fact, they may have already achieved their aim after only a year or so of existence, of creating their own genre, their own niche... Its power to draw you in is what makes it stand up, as it’s not really my cup of tea, and yet I couldn’t not listen to the end.
Sam Fell
Rhythms Australia
The classical wonderment and jazzy sophistication will grab your attention in a vivid and powerful way. It's a terrific debut for a band barely two years old

My Perfect Storm - Official Music Video

Lady Gaga Poker Face Cover - East Brunswick Club 4/7/09

The Moon, My Love is a stunning animation which tells a melancholly tale of romance between a young lady and the moon, created by our own, infuriatingly talented Anita Lester.
The beautiful short film is accompanied by Me and the Grownups' Demons on my Shoulders, from our most recent album, Knowing Lovers, Naive Lovers.
