About Me

I am 19 years old. I have a passion for playing drums that begins deep inside of me and zaps out through my limbs often vibrating the air in rhythmic patterns. I am a BFA 2 at the California Institute of the Arts. I major in Percussion and Jazz drumset. There are many inspiring people here and I feel that it makes me a better musician to be around such people 24/7. I play all styles of music really. I play with groups as well as independently. I will play anything with anyone.... I just love drumming. If you want to talk to me about things besides music, please visit my personal page. .
"Superstition" was a really spur of the moment thing during a gig with Bianca Gisselle. There were some technical difficulties so bassist Steve Rusch and I broke into it.
"I Want You Back" was performed on 7/3/09 at TRIP in Santa Monica. It features Bianca Gisselle on lead vocals/tamborine, Mischa on guitar/vocals, Bob Allaire on keyboard/vocals, Steve Rusch on bass/vocals, and me playing drums.
"Digging up the Roses" was performed with Mae and the Good Unit. This particular recording was made at Tangier on 10/6/08. It features Mae Karthauser, Scott Knudstrup, Brandon Sherman, Graham Chapman, and me
"United" was performed at Tatum Cafe at the California Institute of the Arts on 9/30/08. Personnel are all students at CalArts including Brandon Schmidt on Bass, Matt Kolodciezyc on Sax, and Westin Troiano on Piano.
"One Note Samba" was performed with Rose Fuller and Alfredo Miranda. It was recorded at the Dizzy Gillespie recording studio at CalArts.
"Sing, Sing, Sing" was recorded in December of 2006 with the Highland High School Jazz Ensemble.
All other pieces are originals. Thank you!

Now for the boring part about myself..... I started out playing violin when i was 8 but something in me just wanted to play drums, so when i was 13 I started playing set and percussion. I took lessons briefly from reknowned jazz drummer/percussionist (and later child molestor) wally leask. After that i took lessons from bruce milburn. He taught me some cool rock and funk beats as well as getting me into some afro-cuban rhythms, but he didn't know too much about jazz. Basically everything I know about jazz drumming(with the exception of the basic ride rhythm) has been self taught. I am now going to school to learn more about the drums. In my two years as a multifocus percussion and drumset major, I have learned more than I can imagine and I am so thankful to have gotten the opportunity to attend school at the California Institute of the Arts!
I am originally from Manhattan Beach, I moved to Bakersfield a few years ago, and now I am living in Valencia.

Sounds Like: I started out as a jazz drummer, so I predominantly play jazz. I like to play the good old jazz as well as some new age jazz fusion. None of the contemporary Kenny G shit. I have been in a couple of garage bands playing the exact opposite of jazz really. I play any style. I will soon be playing and possibly touring with a folk/rock/pop group. I am also attempting to start a reggae/ska band, but it’s a little harder than I thought to find a great fit at bass.
