Roger Bryan & The Orphans

About Me

In August of 2007, Buffalo singer-songwriter and Old Sweethearts founder Roger Bryan released "The Engine Hum", a side project that was to precede the next Sweethearts recording. But only a few months after "The Engine Hum's" release, Bryan and the acclaimed Old Sweethearts made public their disbanding. The group of musicians who had assembled to perform the album formed the Orphans. With Matt Smith, Ryan Besch and ex - Old Sweethearts members Jeff Pietrzak and Erik Roesser, Bryan quickly wrote the songs that became their debut record."Recovery" was recorded to tape in the spring at Matt Smith's home studio Hi/Lo and a vinyl only release. It is a dramatic departure from the work of the Old Sweethearts and "Hum" and finds the band playing with an urgency and abandon that echoes the spirit of The Replacements or Crazy Horse. The record deals with the struggles of a band and what happens when bands die; and the overwhelming urge to continue to create and start over. Finding strength in our voice and learning from loss we can recover.
"Recovery" and "The Engine Hum" are out now on Harvest Sum Recordings.
