Determined to change the way people are used to hearing music, the idea for Steel for Scenery was born in a cold St. Paul, Minnesota winter and became a reality over a year later in green, temperate hills of Washougal, Washington.
Reuniting Kevin Goodling, Aaron Eklove, and Nik Pfeifer from the band Watershed, songwriting began in late April of 2008. Several months passed and Zak Anderson, formerly of In the Mouth of a Lion, was eventually introduced as the bassist for the band, completing the group and setting SFS up to start playing shows.
The very first show for Steel for Scenery ended well, with the band walking away winners of the Battle of the Bands held at the Hawthorne Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Performances continued at venues like the Sayricon, The Grind Coffeehouse, Whiskey City, and various house parties and private events. Feedback from concertgoers has been extremely postive for the band, and SFS consistently draws a crowd while making new fans at every show with their intensity, commanding stage presence, and unique sound that draws listeners in and never lets go.
