Once I was little and I had a dream. I wanted to be a ballet dancer like the kids in the books I got from second hand stores. They were all stick like, upright, upstanding – like me, I was a serious child that rarely laughed. I too wanted to be perfect. But perfection was illusive so I turned to the occult. I used to love gothic imagery as a kid and devoured anything to do with witches or vampires. Now ten years on I am a hoarded of these memories, indebted to my past that made me, enslaved by my future that ownes me. Still I’m just as shallow as you are, just as clueless as my first day. Teendom was an eye opener. I learnt to really value the eccentric and quirky and that made me love my huge and unusual family even more. I also came to greatly appreciate all that helps weird and strange people to be, and come to terms with, themselves, these include art, writing, dance, film, literature, comedy, public stunts, exhibitionism, fashion and adornment. I think piercing and tattoos are beautiful, perversely I love the smell of disinfectant you get at tattoo places. A massive shaping force in my life is my best friend Dorrie who I used to spend about six hours on the phone to each night. We’d have meals together and watch TV together. I left my parents house in the far western tip of Scotland when I was sixteen but nothing can rival there for beauty. The west coast is a huge part of me, in my grim homour, dark moods and brief sunny highs. the coast also gave me one of my biggest fears – huge unrestrained waves.
