Jeng Do - Biography
Born May 1978 in Alphen aan den Rijn in The Netherlands, this producer was surrounded by improvised jazz from his earliest years. He played the flute at the age of 5 to learn notes and schemes and played classical piano from the age of six. Untill around 1993, when he got introduced to music software for the first time and a world opened up. His interests had already gone to hip hop, rock and the first house music and now he was able to create a beat with melodious tunes himself. Experimenting and creating hip hop and jazzy melodious chill music at first, the thriving house and new electro and techno scenes soon inspired him to make more futuristic music. From '95/'96 he came across Dutch dj's Dimitri, Remy, Steve Rachmad, Speedy J, Secret Cinema, Michel de Heij and soon also pioneers from abroad like Derrick May, Kenny Larkin, Green Velvet, Luke Slater, The Advent, Claude Young, Joey Beltram, Richie Hawtin, Anthony Rother, Dave Clarke, Sven Vath and many more over time, which naturally influenced his sound. In the drum'n bass genre pioneers like Ltj Bukem and MC Conrad attracted him and the atmospheres influenced him.
After having lived in Amsterdam from Spring '99, where he had organised several parties with friends for upcoming talents and for an enthousiastic crowd, he moved to Rotterdam Spring '03 where the scene was floroushing. Soon he was a part of the Rotterdam scene and he supported several projects like the So Nasty record label, Sound Architecture events, REMF and the first Rotterdam download portal for underground music Muzikism. March '05 he did his first live set at Bootleg and more gigs followed at other venues in and around Rotterdam, varieing from chill sets to pounding techno sets, depending on venue, time and atmosphere. It became clear he was able to play a wide range of quality productions and Summer '06 he decided to set up his label Tuneskin, backed up with a fresh sound that he planned on performing as Jeng Do.
NYE '06/'07 he performed live as Jeng Do for the first time and the following years he played live on Sound Architecture parties (Off Corso, Catwalk), Solar Festival (Roermond), Schluss (Catwalk), Amsterdam Dance Event (Supperclub), Diepgang (Catwalk), Planet Rose (Doornroosje), Awakenings (Maassilo) and on other techno orientated parties. Summer '07 he was scouted to participate in Holland's biggest music contest "Grote Prijs van Nederland" and he reached the semi-finals.
In '08 several digital releases appeared and February '09 the first Jeng Do vinyl release was there: Nine Five EP on Sound Architecture Records (SA007), supported by names like Karotte, Josh Wink, Jamie Anderson, Steve Rachmad, Alexi Delano, Joris Voorn and many more jocks. In the meantime his label developed to be a platform for several quality and unique artists, Kadir Pelit, Libra and Fabienne Soigni in the electronic music field, Campattack and The Mediafreak in the field of visual art and Marnix Postma in the field of photography. Several showcases with the dj's have been held at Catwalk Club Rotterdam in cooperation with Club Listig on Thursdays and November 14th '09 the first official Tuneskin Label Night "Skindip" was being helt at beloved Catwalk. On the label December 1st 2009 the first release appeared: Woken by Jeng Do.
In 2010 more editions of Skindip are coming up in underground venues, with the Skindip residents and special guests. And more releases are coming up on Tuneskin, available on the leading download portals like Beatport, Junodownload, ITunes, MixMag and many more. Stay tuned.
