Once upon a time, ‘Back East’ Dougie Cameron and his band “BADGEâ€, a local R&B outfit complete with a three piece horn section, began working as the opening act for singer song writer Harry Chapin. During this time, while growing in popularity in their own right on the New York club scene, “BADGE†released its one and only single entitled “Christmas Timeâ€. The song was produced and engineered by Johnny Maestro the lead singer of the legendary groups “The Crests†& “ The Brooklyn Bridge†(that same year Maestro appeared on the David Letterman Show and was introduced by Paul Schaffer as the greatest bell conto in the history of rock-n-roll and doo wop). This paring of talent would eventually lead to Cameron working with Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge as they toured everywhere from Milwaukee to Miami performing Johnny’s many top 40 hits including “Sixteen Candles†and the haunting “The Worst That Could Happenâ€Being a consummate bass player Cameron attracted the electronics pioneer Bill Lawrence to ask Cameron to endorse and demonstrate a pro-gear line of guitar and bass equipment, at teaching clinics and trade shows all over the country. Also endorsing for this company was the guitar hero Jimmy Crespo, at the time the lead guitarist for Aerosmith. Cameron and Crespo while juggling schedules between the Brooklyn Bridge and Aerosmith began collaborating on their own material which gave birth to many recording sessions that produced several rock favorites that still can be heard on radio from coast to coast. With a reputation growning on quality Cameron was asked by his friend and producer Johnny Maestro to play bass on a recording project that re-recorded the classic instumental, multi million selling hit “Sleep Walk†with the original artists.Prior to the winter of 1995, Johnny Maestro gearing up for a Christmas CD asked Cameron to contribute some material. One of the compositions ended up being the title track of the “Brooklyn Bridge†CD entitled “Christmas Is†released for the holiday season of 1996. Two years after that release, the song “Christmas Is†found its way on to a compulation album of Christmas classics entitled “Ultimate Christmas Vol. 4â€..Also included on the CD were classics from The Beach Boys, David Bowie/Bing Crosby, Otis Redding, Patti LaBelle, and Elvis Presley. Providing Cameron (with a little help from his friends) with his first gold record.Soon after the “Ultimate Christmas†release Cameron found himself with a wealth of his own material. And with the encouragement of a diverse group of friends, including his old buddy Jimmy Crespo (then touring with Rod Stewart), Steve Tyler, Mark Farner (of Grand Funk Rail Road), Radio icon Bruce (Cousin Brucie) Morrow, and even the late Tiny Tim. Cameron moved his residence from New York to Los Angeles. There in the sunshine, creative opportunity flourished, Cameron formed the project Dougie Cameron & The BEACHDRAGONS and recorded the CD “DEMODELUXE†now available at iTunes and CD Baby.As creative birds of a feather flock together Doug found himself with an invitation to try mixing music with acting, using his NY persona, to achieve parts on Chicago Hope, The Norm McDonald Show, Arli$$, and According to Jim (which he appeared playing bass on the last 6 seasons).Still living, working, and playing in Los Angeles. Cameron if asked “are you going home for the Holidays?..His reply.. â€I AM HOMEâ€
