About Me

For the first time in its history Highley has a Rugby team and the momentum is building. With our first eleven games already under our belt, interest and support for our newly founded club has been immense and it’s fair to say the talk of the village. The idea of forming a rugby team had been talked about in the village for almost two years but nothing ever came of it. Then finally, on an evening in September 2006 on a half lit Bache Arms pitch, a group of some 15 would be Highley rugby players took to the training field in preparation for their first game against the Clee Hill. The two men primarily responsible for getting the team started being Leon Aspin and Richard Home, both residents of Highley and fanatical about rugby it didn’t take long for things to progress. The goal of Highley RFC is to continue to work and train hard and to keep the current momentum going until Highley RFC is not only established but competitive. We hope to be playing Merit table games in the very near future and ultimately to achieve league status for the 2007/ 2008 season.Although that seems a long way off it really isn’t. We have an ever increasing fixture list and Leon is constantly seeking to arrange further games with a view to playing weekly until the end of the season. The aim obviously being to gain invaluable match practice and fitness. I have no doubt that preparation will not end there either and closed season fitness training will be high on the agendaOur first training session involved some 15 players, we now have in excess of 40 playing staff and we are welcoming new faces each week. We have already fielded two sides and our aim is to put two teams out every week.Highley RFC now has it’s own match playing strip and collar shirts which sport the club badge.Furthermore, Highley RFC will play it’s first home game ever on the Bache Arms pitch on the 14th of April against Bridgnorth. I’m sure everyone will agree that this will be a very special day for the club.We are also proud to have a strong non-playing support staff to whom we are all very grateful. In short, the future or Highley Rugby Football Club is looking good!!www.highleyrfc.co.ukl
