About Me

"To be part of a Kate Rowe live performance is to be charmed by her witty lyrics, warmed by her smile and her delicate, full voice and sent off into the night with happiness levels fully replenished."
Bob Charter, Co-Director Blue Mountains Folk Festival
Kate Rowe writes and sings catchy, quirky songs with a strong fantasy and story-telling element. Sometimes sweet and charming, sometimes dark and thoughtful, her lyrics and melodies leave audiences moved, inspired and above all, entertained. Within her extensive repertoire of original material, ranging from wry observational pieces to reflective ballads, Kate has the startling ability to make mundane things appear charged with significance or to make the fantastic seem perfectly plausible.

Kate's debut album "The Simplest of Things" is a warm and positive album which appeals to all ages. Accompanied by John Stuart on guitar, Andrew Ireland on double bass and Julia Day on drums, Kate sings the songs that her audiences have liked the best: Family Outing (the pirate song), Butterfly, Catacombs, Talk to You, Don't Kiss Me, Fred the Dog, Kitchen Shop Romantic, Jindabyne, Safe and The Frog. 'Jindabyne', a song about a poignant family journey won the BluFM89.1 award for Outstanding Contribution to Country Music. Kate was a finalist in the 2009 Victorian & National Country Music Awards (Victorian Female Vocalist) for 'Talk to You'. 'The Simplest of Things' was produced at Sound Heaven Studios (myspace link below in Friends list) and is now available at www.katerowe.com.

Kate began writing songs in 1999, and began performing in 2001 in Paris while working as an English teacher at the Sorbonne University. Since then her day jobs have included book illustrator, fairy at children’s parties, high school French teacher, radio presenter and kitchen shop sales assistant. Kate has been performing solo since 2006 and has performed at the Blue Mountains Music Festival, the Cygnet Folk Festival in Tasmania, Apollo Bay Music Festival in Victoria and the Cobargo Folk Festival in NSW among others.

She is currently on tour around Australia with WA songwriter Ryan Morrison.

Sounds Like: "Cross MISSY HIGGINS with SARA STORER and you’ll get KATE ROWE. Admittedly well steeped in folk, Kate’s music also has a good dose of country added. Her newly released album The Simplest Of Things is deceptively light and airy, full of thought provoking self-written tracks – effortless light-hearted themes with heartfelt provocative cores [...] Kate Rowe is fresh and delightful – certainly a much needed shot in ‘country’s arm.’" Deborah Minter, Capital News (read full review here )

"Kate has a way with words that is just delightful. It is as if she is actually a short story author, it just so happens she is a great muso as well. [...] This is a fun, interesting and honest album that leaves me in real anticipation for her next release." Robyn Jarman, The Stix (read full review here )

"Hovering between country and folk, sweet and twee, Blue Mountains singer-songwriter Kate Rowe is not quite sure where to go next. There's no rush as her charm carries her story-rich songs easily and there's enough here to suggest that with a more assertive vocal presence she might develop into something pretty good." Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald (see review here )

“Listening to Kate sing is like drinking Baileys—it’s sweet and mellow, but there’s a kick underneath!”
