About Me

Winner of the 2005 New Orleans International Piano Competition and the 2003 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, pianist Tanya Bannister’s burgeoning career has brought her to many of the world’s great concert halls, including recitals in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro Communale in Bologna, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, and Weill Hall in New York. Performance prizes awarded to her at the CAG Competition include recital engagements on such prestigious series as Washington Performing Arts Society, La Jolla Chamber Music Society, Rockefeller University’s Tri-Institutional Noon Recitals Series, Music in my Room and New York’s Merkin Concert Hall. She recently made her debut in Tokyo’s Nikkei Hall to critical acclaim.

Ms. Bannister was hailed in the Deseret Morning News as “an expressive pianist who plays with feeling and emotional involvement. Her technical skills are equally impressive, and she had ample opportunity to display both during her well-chosen program.” In 2004, she made her debut recording, featuring the late piano sonatas of Muzio Clementi (1752-1832), released on the Naxos label to great critical acclaim. The BBC Music Magazine says, "…[Tanya Bannister] is clearly an artist to watch …Bannister plays up the music’s dynamism and occasionally restless spirit – Barenboim’s EMI Beethoven sonata cycle is readily brought to mind. Yet although she possesses enviable articulate and accurate fingers, she is also sensitive to the music’s many lyrical asides. A most impressive Naxos debut."

Ms. Bannister has performed with orchestras, including the New Haven Symphony, Westchester Philharmonic, American Civic Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Charlotte Symphony, Macao Philharmonic, Craiova Symphony Orchestra in Romania and L’Aquila Filarmonica in Italy. She performed recently at the Kurt..g Festival in London as part of the South Bank series at the Royal Festival Hall.

Ms. Bannister recently completed her studies with Richard Goode at Mannes. She also studied with Claude Frank, Franco Scala in Italy, and Karl-Heinz K..mmerling in Austria.
