Razing Darkness

About Me

Razing Darkness is Jason Danielson. I formed this solo outlet in 1998 and have been exploring sound ever since. I meld textures from various electronic and acoustic sources, field recordings, extensive effects processing, the occasional misuse/abuse of software, found sound, etc. I attempt to make abstract "visual" music that fully envelops the listener creating a deep, or at least active, listening space.
I was also a longtime member of the Tapegerm Collective
(2000-2003). The resulting CD from these ongoing collaborations-Razing Germs, was favorably reviewed by the Brainwashed Brain . Other work included a collaboration with audio/visual artist DeVico as the Dark Ambient/Noise project Foreign Body .

Sounds Like: "Ominous bass drones & industrial machine noise drenched with reverbed feedback and queasy delay. Exploring planetary territories through alien droid transmissions. Imagine a large space craft ripping apart a desolate lunarscape to build towering monoliths of steel. Most of Terraform has a very narrative and filmic quality."
-- Furthernoise.org
"Danielson adeptly composes and mixes with a palette that includes all manner of machinations, synth sounds, some percussive elements, heavily manipulated samples and various other more easily identifiable samples like bird song, lapping water and electricity. Nearly every track surrealistically juxtaposes moments of controlled calm and barely controlled chaos."
-- Brainwashed.com
"Synthetic modulations masked with distorted and dying radio frequencies. Rhythmic pulsations and decay. Barren post fallout landscapes. Chaotic filtration and manipulation. Honest and egoless sound experimentation."

Cronenberg’s Dream

Shivers did start with a dream I had about a spider that emerged from a woman's mouth at night while she slept. The dream was very casual; it wasn't a horrific dream at all. It was just, "Oh yeah, t...
