I am here for Friends

About Me

Yes, this is Amanda. Currently, I consider myself to be quite laid-back and completely capable of humoring myself on a constant basis; I'm capable of talking to myself for hours and still be quite content in doing so. I am a creation of God, therefore, I am striving to live a life that represents the "very good" in which He claimed from the beginning. The creation should be that of the likeness of the creator. Like Father, like son/daughter.... I finally finished college with a BS in Theology. I'm back at home now, working to pay off all the debt. I made it into the Jesuit Volunteer Corps--I will be working at Our Lady of Gaudalupe Middle School in Southwest Detroit in August for a year. .. type='text/javascript' src='http://www.kiva.org/banners/bannerBlock.php'..

My Interests

Click here to learn what's happening in Darfur, Sudan I have grown really interested in the Eastern African countries since I saw the video Invisible Children and having a roommate raise money and go to Ghana (not in Eastern Africa, but an influence still.) I've been reading books on that area of the world lately too. Things I want to live by:From the mouth of Paul....."We will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original."From Jesus...."No servant can serve two masters....You cannot serve both God and Money."Good Reminders: God Loves to use WEAK people, Self-denial is the core of servanthood. I also like to paint and use chalk pastels, although I haven't in a while. Pumpkin Pie is pretty awesome too.

I'd like to meet:

You, your mom, dad, sister, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, dog, cat, fish, hampster, and farm animals, but please, no old, middle aged men in search for some young, good looking lady like myself. I know I'm sexy....but please contain yourself for a moment. If I do not know those that request my friendship or are considering it, I perfer a message of intent before requesting, please. Thank you.

....................................... If everyone on MySpace donated $1, we could provide food, medicine, and an education to 22,746 kids in Africa for the next 10 YEARS!........As you read this, over 3 million people in Darfur, Sudan are crammed together in concentration camps, dying of disease and hunger, while government sponsored troops slaughter civilians, use rape to destroy group unity, and shoot children for sport. 400,000 men, women, and children are already dead. Entire races have been exterminated by the Sudanese government's campaign of ethnic cleansing. "He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God" Proverbs 14:31

Music:

Any Christian rock basically. My more favorite though are Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Big Dismal, Further Seems Forever, The Afters, The Fold, The Classic Crime, House of Heroes, Mae, Hawk Nelson, This Providence, Story Side B, Phil Wickham, Anberlin, RED, Skillet, Brandon Heath, Fair, Leeland,The Daylights, and Red Umbrella. Paul Wright is the man. I like country music as well. I do like Jack Johnson too. I love Judy Garland's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" along with the older sound like Billie Holiday, including the new age jazz stuff like Norah Jones and similar sounds.

Movies:

I watch a lot of corny movies actually. Some favorites though are Braveheart, Gladiater, The Passion of Christ, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Gone with the Wind, Peter Pan, My Fair Lady, The Incredibles.....

Television:

Momma said, Television is the devil--well, she didn't really say that, but it almost could be. We let the media have too much control over us. I would love to watch some Carolina Panthers' football and UNC basketball though. I don't really watch that much tv anymore--too many more interesting things to do in life. Books are better anyways.

Books:

St. Augustine, Thomas Merton, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Emily Dickenson, Thomas More....

Heroes:

Jesus is an obvious; not enough can be said about him. Other than that: St. Faustina, St. Augustine, St. Anselm, Mother Teresa, and Ghandi. Really though....just the everyday normal people that live out what God wants them to do--those who have found true freedom by being whom they were made to be in Christ.
