About Me

A good friend and mentor of mine Simon Slieker wrote this passage and i thought id post it for you all to read. It is very much also something i too belive in..
"Western society is conditioned into a certain way of being. We're constantly being removed from our sense of connection: to ourselves, to each other, to the planet. There is a great danger in this, that through our disconnection we've circumvented the conscience that would have prevented much unnescessary and indiscriminate carnage.
Our planet is starting to buck up under the strain we've placed upon it. And the revolution that needs to happen has to begin with each individual; it's a personal revolution. That'll only happen when people start to feel connected.
It's my belief that in the raw form of dance exists the primal thread of connection. I'm one of many who, together make up a movement given to drawing that thread through the eye of the needle. It's up to us all to drive that needle home, deep into the fabric of our future. That's what it's about for me; that's where I'm at." -Simon Slieker
DJ Muska BIO
The mixed-genre set may seem like a daunting prospect to many DJs, but for Melbourne DJ Michael Muska it means a set without limitations, enabling him to take punters on the endlessly enthralling journey of sound which has catapulted him to success in the infancy of his DJing career. Muska grew up in Western Australian where he started pushing boundaries in the dance music scene. It was clear from this point that it would be well-worth relocating to Melbourne where he could fully realise his potential to overstep boundaries and defy industry trends.
With eight years of djn now behind him, strong support from within the dance community, three stable residencies and his own party “Mixed Messages” which just like his music is breaking down barriers in the underground music scene, Muska has earned his spot playing alongside some of the best DJs in Australia.
Muska have hosted & supported internationals such as
Lutzenkirchen / Tomcraft / Martain Eyerer / Drumattic Twins / Worthy / Dekline / Chris Fortier / ANTIX / Stephen Bodzin / Meat Katie / Rouge Element / Elite Force / Mark Henning / Peter Juergen / Shapeshifter / Ewan Pearson / Kid Dub / Style Of Eye / Chew Fu Phat / Ed rush & Optical / Global Gathering / Hot BBQ / Dave Spoon / Proxy / Jenifer Cardini / Matrik / Mark Romboy / Daniel Steinberg /

Like many other words, ‘underground’ is slowly finding other meanings. To some, it is a sound they have never heard before. To others who may be experiencing electronic music for the first time, they may use the word to describe the particular sound to friends. Yet to others, underground dance music is techno, drum and bass, hard, fast or alternative.

Mixed Messages defies the general idea of underground dance music being set in one particular genera. It incorporates djs and live elements from all genreas of electronic music. Mixed Messages is the bridge between worlds for clubgoers bored with the monotony and repetition, and the moment the people of the old underground have been waiting for.

We will see a notable increase in the word ‘Underground’ come this summer and into the new year. But the use of the word ‘underground’ in this context will be what Mixed Messages considers simply a fad, soon to diminish in meaning as time moves on in the Melbourne club scene just as the word electro has.

Mixed Messages uses the words ‘Underground Reborn’ as the best way to describe their music and the unique party vibe. It’s the vibe that once began a cultural movement. Unfortunately, that party atmosphere fizzled out and lost direction. This is underground dance music with the old school rave, party and club mind set reborn...
The rave scene was once the safest place a person could go to listen to music. The ecstasy generation was linked with a communal, subconscious understanding of the reason everyone was present. There was a distinct anti-threatening consciousness as partgoers were there to take part in a celebration of what they had found. Electronic music has been a driving force in not only the evolution of music itself, but also in expanding the mind of the creators and listeners. It has become a way for people who think outside the box society deems as ‘normal’ to come together. The scene was a place you could dance, listen to music, share ideas with common minded people and generally away from the pressure to conform.

Any sound or genre of music over the years has proven to be a big factor in the segregation of society. It unwittingly categorizes people into where they feel they belong.

Mixed Messages creates a regular club/rave experience for party goers who love music good times and friends. This is the basis of the party. People who want to have fun without the drama’s and selfishness of others with negative intentions. Mixed Messages is more than a party. It’s a vibe that exists only when like-minded people create it.
