About Me

My first novel, CHEMISTRY, was published by Harrington Park Press in 2006 and recently nominated for a Lambda Literary Award. Set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s gay world toward the end of the dot-com boom, CHEMISTRY tells the story of two lovers whose relationship is shattered by mental illness. The title, of course, has a double meaning—referring both to the chemistry of mental illness and to romantic chemistry—that ineffable quality that brings two people together, even if they otherwise appear to have nothing in common. In that sense, love is a form of madness. But who’s to say what madness means? In an age when mood and behavior can be altered by a pill, what is real, and what is false? In recent years, psychotropic medication has become more and more popular, for a variety of conditions, but the subject of mental illness remains largely unspoken. I hope through this novel to call some needed attention to it, engendering greater understanding of a problem that too many people suffer through in silence. My Website contains additional information about CHEMISTRY and my other work, including an excerpt and reviews.
