I revere any painted and most live-action films of Stan Brakhage. The man once hugged me, gave me a bag of a painted loop for helping him move, extolled my better films to crowds, and made me someone at my university. I will never, ever forget him. His films that made me rise from my seat in awe: I Am Afraid: And This Is My Fear, The Persian Series, The Chartres Series, The Text of Light, Commingled Containers, Concrescence, Christ on Cross, Stellar, and The Dead. I have not included titles of films I cannot recall the imagery.
A fantastic film that no one will ever see is "Fog Line" (1970). It is an 11 minute take (400' roll of 16mm film) of white... slowly drifting to the right... it is fog, and the landscape appears beyond after 9 minutes or so. This simple film has inspired me in more ways than most other films.
Other inspiration comes from the works of Zachary Scheuren and Courtney Hoskins and Clint Eastwood!
The Three Musketeers (trans. William Robson), The Count of Monte Cristo (trans. Robin Buss), Harry Potter, and I'm halfway through Eragon and it's a wonderful tale!
