.................................Diamond-Ortiz: The Bad Boys of Blues shake up NYE
Submitted by moonmama on Thu, 01/01/2009 - 1:28pm***-------------------------------
"When I was a little girl, I REALLY wanted to be a Solid Gold Dancer (remember that show, Solid Gold? It was a late 1970’s music/dance themed variety show, gives away my age, huh? I think it started where Soul Train left off.) They were the back ground dancers who wore snazzy sequined outfits and got to shake it behind such folks at Donna Summer, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Nicks and Andy Gibb, as well as choreographed numbers to the top 10 hits of the times. They were pretty cool to my younger self.-------------------------------------We’ll in some way I got the live out that fantasy on NYE with the rocking boys from Diamond-Ortiz. Peri’s Silver Dollar was again my welcoming host for all things fun and gyrating, and the New Years drunk-vibe made the evening even more festive, entertaining and random than normal.-----------------------------------If you don’t know Diamond-Ortiz, babe, you are missing out on some amazing youthful blues and old school 70’s rock and soul. Please, I beg you, you must check them out.--------------------------------Imagine if Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn came back to inhabit the body’s of three 20-something young men. Imagine those 3 young guys, whose whacked out antics and phenomenal musicianship create an entertaining show. Imagine the blues played so well and so real that you can’t help but smile and dance. That’s Diamond Ortiz.----------------------------------Brothers Gabe and Jeremy Diamond-Ortiz have been playing music together for a while, but the band was started in 2003. Older brother Gabe makes magic with his shredding, soulful and emotional guitar playing and younger brother Jeremy, who’s thumping, gritty bass and emphatic vocals bring such a high energy to every performance. Longtime friend (and non-family member) Chris Heath rounds out the trio with his energetic drumming and solid presence.--------------------------------------------Until I saw Diamond-Ortiz for the first time last year, I have never experienced musicians play on top of a bar or drink table, have never seen a guitarist HANG from a bar while playing one handed, have never seen two guys have such a fun time playing their instruments in the middle of the dance floor, laying on their backs with puddles of beer near their heads. In my time, I have seen some crazy musicians do some crazy shit, but this is something else.-------------------------------------------------------
------Every Diamond-Ortiz show is a group effort between the audience and the musicians. I can’t begin to tell you how fun is it to shimmy and shake while an accomplished musician plays right in my face. I can’t begin to put into words the excitement I get to be part of the act, the creation. Where my energy feeds the music, only to make it even more orgasmic than I thought possible. Must be how the Solid Gold Dancers felt.----------------------------------------------(Diamond-
Ortiz plays Peri's Silver Dollar in Downtown Fairfax on Wednesday, January 14th & 28th)

............................YO YO YO Peoples!Comin' your way from across the bay it's DIAMOND ORTIZ! Reppin' the blues and rock 'n' roll!!! Not to mention that OG sleazy FONK---
OWWWWWWW!The Diamond Ortiz brothers have been playing that old skool music together since the mid 90's - and Diamond Ortiz brings all that experience to the table in a tasty, bluesy stew.Gabriel Diamond Ortiz (guitar/vocals) dedicated his life to the guitar and blues in particular at age 12 in 1994, after his seeing his first show at his native San Francisco's famous Fillmore nightclub. After hearing SRV, Jimi, and Clapton the first time he was hOOOOKed on those Bluez BAABY!A veteran of too many blues, rock, funk, latin, African, Reggae, & Soul/R&B groups to count, Gabe founded Diamond Ortiz in 2003 with his brother and protege Jeremy (bass/keyz/vocals). A badass himself! WHOOOOOOOOO!Filling out the lineup in 2006 was their old friend Chris Heath on the drums.Since recording their first demos in 2003, Diamond Ortiz has gone thru an amazing period of growth and musical development. Diamond was in their huge funk phase when they started. One listen to Jeremy's throbbing, gnarly basslines and you see where DO's funk motor is at.Jeremy has since become a prodigy on multi instruments including the keys, bass, guitar, drums and melodica, to name a few. DO's earliest gigs featured young Elliot Diamond Ortiz on electric drums.
The two songs you hear on this site are Diamond Ortiz's first official studio recordings. They show the very first glimpse of the old skool-new skool: in yo' face bluesy guitar, funk heavy grooves, and crazy psychedelic 50's rock and roll with bumpin ass bass licks. OUCHHHHHHH!Diamond Ortiz's live show is a whole 'nother thang. Natural born hi energy performers, DO really goes nuts onstage. They bring a youthful, passionate energy to the blues that hasn't been seen in years. With Gabe wailing away and jumping off tables and Jeremy funkin it up and twirling around, this is a stadium rock stage show that has been years in the making - guaranteed to blow your mind! The crazy live act was forged on the road and in the Bay area. They spent a year playing in Bangkok and the Islands of Thailand (They even brought live music to the world famous full moon rave parties) and have toured extensively all over the state and Los Angeles (Including the Knitting Factory, the Roxy, and the Viper Room).Diamond Ortiz has played all the top clubs in the Bay Area including the Fillmore, Boom Boom Room, 12 Galaxies, Sweetwater and more.Catch Diamond Ortiz at their residency 1st and 3rd wednesdays of every month at Peri's in downtown Fairfax and catch the vibe for yourself!Diamond Ortiz are currently recording their first record at KBT studios in San Anselmo. Don't miss them ripping it up at their first festival gig - this year at the Fairfax fest!Keep it sleazy, don't be cutty, and that funk better be slammin' how DIAMOND ORTIZ is jammin'! - Copyright 2008 Diamond Ortiz
