About Me

I write speculative fiction for teens.

What's speculative fiction? It's not quite science fiction, not quite fantasy, not quite paranormal or supernatural or horror or magical realism--but may include all of these categories.

KIRKUS REVIEWS, STARRED:
"Kathleen’s melancholic tale does justice both to the moving story of a girl coming to terms with the death of her brother and to the magical adventure of a universe-shifting girl trying to find her way home."
VOYA:
This book is a fast read that will sweep readers up in the complications of the many lives of Kathleen/Kay/Kate/Kathy. Although encompassing an unimaginable concept, it makes the notion of traveling multiple realities believable and understandable. Intermixing the fine details of the book, Jacobs finds time to throw in splashes of rebellion, new love, and complex decisions. However heavy the book's subject and characters seem to be, it is, in the end, a light yet thrilling read.
BOOKLIST:
The supernatural premise makes this book about choices and consequences stand out…readers will root for a couple so clearly drawn together. Booth, Heather
TEENS READ TOO:
Teens Read Too Gold Award, Hall of Fame winner Reviewed by: Karin Perry Rating: 5 Stars www.teensreadtoo.com Deborah Lynn Jacobs has created a thought-provoking novel about the importance of life choices. Kathleen learns a lot about herself as she navigates her way through her many lives, attempting to reconcile with family, friends, and her own feelings about loss and love.
POWERS
POWERS was released by Roaring Brook Press in Sept. 2006. It was nominated for ALA's Quick Pics for Reluctant Readers. It also received an honorable mention by the Sunburst Jury (the Sunburst is a Canadian award for speculative fiction)
PRAISE FOR POWERS
VOYA:
"This novel is more than a typical fantasy/science fiction exploration of psychic powers. Nicely developed subplots deal with romance, friendship, and family relationships."
SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL:
"This fast-paced plunge into ESP effectively blends the occult with the turmoil of adolescent romance."
