About Me
Oakland native Habitt learned a lot about having game from his uncles, especially comedian Mark Curry who is briefly heard on his album Talk of the Town. Habitt, dubbed “The Golden State's Next Best Thing†was recognized by the highly praised radio industry trade magazine, Urban Network, as delivering "the best album from the left coast in 2005."With minimal guest appearances (The Luniz and Knoc-Turn'al) and production courtesy of the Elements, (Black Eyed Peas, the Wu Tang Clan, Pete Rock/CL Smooth, Will Smith and Mariah Carey), Talk of the Town turned heads. Talk of the Town also garnered notable acclaim from urban media staples such as www.allhiphop.com, MURDER DOG and XXL magazine.Born Sean Johnson, Habitt was raised in Oakland’s Bay Area. Tragedy had come early, when at age five his father passed away. As he often had a hard time dealing with the loss, he eventually developed a few bad habits. His ultimate test came when one of his favorite cousins was shot and killed by the police. Habbit's life began to spiral out of control, climaxing when he himself was shot at the age of 17, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Habitt professes, “A lot of my close friends have passed away, and I felt if I stayed in Oakland, the same thing could happen to me.†After surviving the shooting and still not being able to shake his wayward habits, the teenager decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a more productive life. He proved he could make it on the streets of Los Angeles without falling prey to his old ways, persevering through undesirable circumstances, which included a job at Fatburger.Habitt later landed several PA opportunities with MTV, Warner Brothers and UPN's popular sitcom, "The Parkers.†I wasn't trippin', 'cause I was gettin' closer to my dream," he says. "I was the runner. If they wanted bacon bits on their salad, extra ice in their cup, whatever they wanted, they got it."While he was doing "grunt" work, Habitt eventually earning the attention of cast member Yvette Wilson. So impressed with his work habits, and more importantly, his rap prose, Wilson took and delivered a copy of the "runner's" demo to her husband - industry veteran Jerome Harry. Two months passed before Harry, the CEO and President of Fat Daddy Records contacted Habitt with an assignment. He would have to go on NBC's Showtime at the Apollo, and survive the terrifying audience known for dismissing rappers. His trip to the East Coast’s beastly stage of the Apollo was a phenomenal success. When he returned to Los Angeles, Harry and Wilson were waiting with open arms, a pen and a contract.A firm believer in giving back, Habitt is heavily involved in the Julius Gore Memorial Scholarship Award aim towards gifted yet average students with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 who would not normally get scholarship offers. From a raw talent who yearned in the worst way to be discovered, he'll have little reason to explain who he is before long. “Everybody has their habits†explains the Bay Area rapper. “I'm just trying to become yours.â€
