About Me

The Free State Prophets formed in their present guise in late 2003 and from the first moment the chemistry within the band was evident. The formula was simple, solid rhythm followed by driving guitar and finished off with belting vocals.
As the songs began to flow, plaudits from friends and strangers alike were positive and given the power of FSP live, the next step was simple. The band decided to record a demo, studios were talked about until a decision was made to try a certain Brian O’Shaughnessy at his homely Bark Studios in North East London. The band was later to find out that Brian had been involved in projects which included Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine and unforgettably, Star Trekkin by The Firm!
What started out as a demo recording, ended up taking the best part of 2004 and several trips to the land of Bark, which culminated in the 2005 launch of Youthanesium and the Parafinalien, a rough yet powerful debut album showcasing the bands favourite songs.
Initial response to the album was great and this was followed up by a tour to South Africa which took in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch and not to be forgotten, Bloemfontein along with radio interviews and airplay. In 2006, the band came into contact with producer John Miller. After recording a few tracks in John’s Maida Vale studio, it was clear that musically, FSP were a fast improving band and with John’s enthusiasm and experience, it became a no brainer to sign a three track production deal with him.
The result of this partnership is evident in the bands 2007 release, Summerlong, which features the single ‘Summerlong’ along with ‘More or Less’ and ‘Nightlight’.
Presently, reviews and response to the recordings have been beyond belief. The encouragement received has given the band a stronger sense of purpose to realise their dream and to make the Free State Prophets a much loved and respected band.
FSP are based in London and include Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, QOTSA and the Foo Fighters as their influences.
