About Me
BIO:
'SLY GUY' *aka* 'SLY COOPA' *aka* 'MR. SLICK~n~FLY' was born Elijah R. Boles in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 3, 1988. Sly's family relocated to the DFW metroplex in 1992, after his father was laid off, in order to be closer to relatives. SLY had always been instinctively interested in all things musical, namely the rap and hip-hop genres. At the young age of 7, he started playing with lyrics and joining in on "family freestyle sessions" with older brothers Frank (FRANKIE FIYAH), and Jeramie (DA REVOLUTION *aka* DA REVOL).
SLY 's style was greatly influenced by his surroundings, mostly his brothers, but also from his experiences growing up in the DFW metroplex. He spent alot of time running in some the grimiest hoods in Arlington and Grand Prairie. Artists whom he also credits for influencing his style include the likes of the late, great Tupac Shakur, Snoop, Busta Rhymes, JT Money, Trick Daddy, E-40 and many other talented artists.
SLY knew he had a passion for music, but didn't take it seriously as a career until 1998, when he and his brothers were offered a group record deal with independent label, Mo Star Records. During their brief stint with the indie label, they recorded tracks and performed in LA and TX as the group "Trill Boy Supastars". But after many unresolved differences with the label, the group and Mo Star Records parted ways as the contract was dissolved and the trio went back to doing things on their own, forming their own group, TRE LIX. Sly continued perfecting his craft and skill while attending Irving High School, writing lyrics, composing tracks, and freestyling as much as possible. At lunchtime, he would engage in freestyle battles with fellow aspiring entertainers, sometimes even earning him detention. His freestyle battles always drew crowds and resulted in quite a faithful following for Sly, not to mention the reputation of lyrical mastermind he was fast gaining among his peers.
