Weaving queer theory, psychology, and pop culture into an innovative narrative structure, Queens of Heart brings to light the therapeutic skills of Darcelle, a seventy-five year old activist and drag queen, and her fellow performers as they manage the anxieties of patrons at nightly performances at the club. In addition to following the performers through interviews and observations, the film follows patrons as they wrestle with gender identity, sexual desire, and expectations of marriage. The result is a film that is as thought provoking and informative as it is heart warming.
