gringo formed in 1994 when local skateboard legend, Metal Man and his pet drunk Ed Alcohol teamed up with The Captain & Bob Bitter. In the early 80's, before gringo, Metal Man had played in local legendary punk bands, "Boorish Boot" and "The Loud Ones." When Ed A. wasn't boozin' it up or stealin' shit, he could be found playing with "The Mothers of Perversion." The Captain had played in "Mind's End" and "Full Circle", two h/c punk bands from Cranston. Bob was tryin' to get the "Roachenders" back together with roachenders originator Sambler, but couldn't find a guitar player. The Captain brought everybody together and they started learning covers and writting originals. Once they were underway, it started sounding pretty good. They decided they should get a singer, so Ed could consentrate on playing bass. Bob had been trying to get his friend Kenny Cooler to come down to practice and check it out. Kenny was reluctant at first but, eventually signed on, gringo was finally complete. Kenny had played in "Self Destruct" and "Headrot", two local metal bands that played with many national bands.
