At age 13, Martin Janecky began his career in art glass in his hometown of Novy Bor in the Czech Republic apprenticing at the Harmonia Glass factory. One year later, he commenced his formal art training at the Secondary Glass Art School where he studied for four years, while concurrently working at the factory. He quickly gained the notice of others in the world of glass. By 2001, at the age of 21, Martin had already been blowing and sculpting glass for 8 years, during which time he served on the faculty at Technicon Pretoria in South Africa, won the prestigious Art & Craft in Glass.Martin Janecky’s resume has grown exponentially since 2001. His prestigious awards include the 2006 Kaizer Foundation Award, and 2008 World Prize of Salvador Dali Laureate for significant accomplishments in the field of fine arts. The list of artists for whom Martin has been gaffer and assistant include such notables as Reny Roubicek, Petr Novatny, Bernard Hessen, Tonny Craig, William Morris, Karen Willenbrink, Jiri Harcuba, Therman Statom, Ross Richmond, Loren White, Joe David, Pike Powers, Dany Perkins, Richard Royal, Jim Butler, Preston Singleterry, and Alexandra Nechita.Internationally renowned, Martin has worked extensively throughout the United States, Sweden, India, South Africa, and Holland in addition to the Czech Republic.Many, in the world of glass art, know Martin for his extensive teaching and demonstration background. The Corning Museum of Glass, Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Arts & Crafts, Tacoma Museum of Glass, and Pratt Fine Arts Center are just a few among the list of institutions which have and continue to feature Martin.Martin is constantly exploring and pushing the limits on sculpting molten glass. His body of work exemplifies the magic which occurs when a gifted artist has the technical knowledge and talent to bring life to his vision..
