Bass An-Dread
Born in 1984 he’s playing cello ever since he was six years old. When he was still a child he started looking for all kind of instruments, conventional or not. Being fascinated by construction today he’s finally able to put together a part of his own equipment that he plays with contact microphones, laptop. He plays it all together with electric cello in the band Airchamber 3. For what concerns arts he’s interested in sincerity and interiority without losing sight on pure “funâ€, and he refuses to improvise with an approach based on a mere demonstration of virtuosism. His musical experiences evolves around eclectism and have brought him to cross different musical and artistical styles. He plays in the Instrumental Theatre Ensemble of his hometown’s conservatory but he also played bass in a reggae combo, he takes part to Orchestra Laboratorio directed by Claudio Lugo but he’s also played for more conventional orchestras and theatres. Hes been involved with the recording of a cd by Luigi Bonafede and Pietro Tonolo out on New York’s Obliq Sound recordsand he’s also recorded with drummer Francesco Cusa and saxophone player Gianni Mimmo. He actually works with Claudio Cinelli. he went on tour with Carla Bozulich's Evangelista italian tour 2007 and american and european tour in 2008 with the cello and now he is following the band for the european tours..Cello remains his main instrument, and after winning a period of studies ..o performance†at the University of Georgia, he graduated at the Conservatory of Milano under the guidance of M° Scano. in february 2008 he made a recording with John Russell, Gianni Mimmo, Angelo Contini,Jean Michel Van Schouwburg at the murec studio in Milan.Nato nel 1984, suona il violoncello da quando ha 6 anni. Fin da piccolo ha sempre cercato di produrre suoni con qualsiasi strumento possibile, che fosse convenzionale o meno. Attratto da sempre alla costruzione di attrezzi, giocattoli e oggetti vari, oggi costruisce da solo alcuni dei suoi strumenti, e, insieme a microfoni a contatto e computer li suona assieme al suo violoncello elettrico nel gruppo Airchamber 3. Interessato in campo artistico più alla sincerità e alla profondità , e perché no al divertimento, rifiuta un approccio all’improvvisazione musicale come sfoggio di virtuosismo. Le sue esperienze musicali sono all’insegna dell’eclettismo e della volontà di collocarsi in mezzo ai generi musicali e artistici, e vanno dal gruppo di Teatro Strumentale del Conservatorio di Alessandria all’esperienza di bassista e leader di un gruppo reggae, dall’Orchestra Laboratorio di Claudio Lugo alla composizione di musiche per spettacoli teatrali e alcune "chanson" in francese,oltre a esperienze orchestrali varie. Ora collabora attivamente insieme al fratello al progetto Trancity della compagnia di teatro di figura "Porte Girevoli" di Claudio Cinelli a Vinci.
Ha partecipato alla registrazione di un cd di Luigi Bonafede e Pietro Tonolo uscito per la Obliq Sound di New York, e ha registrato un cd di canzoni popolari svedesi con la cantante svedese Anna-Kajsa Holmberg, il fratello Luca Serrapiglio al clarinetto basso e Nicola Guazzaloca al vibrafono e alla fisarmonica, intitolato Samsingen, dal nome del progetto italo-svedese, uscito per la amirani records.
Ha registrato con Francesco Cusa e Gianni Mimmo un cd (A watched Pot(never boils)) di improvvisazione, nato dall'incontro di un pomeriggio milanese al MuRec studio. Nel 2007 ha partecipato al seminario tenuto da Tristan Honsinger e Fabrizio Puglisi a Bologna.
Ha seguito il tour italiano di Carla Bozulich come violoncellista nel 2007 e quello americano ed europeo nel 2008.Ora segue stabilmente la band per i tour europei. Il violoncello resta il suo strumento principale, e dopo aver vinto una borsa di studio per un corso intensivo di Cello Performance alla University of Georgia, si è diplomato al Conservatorio di Milano con il M° Scano. Ha registrato un disco in quintetto con John Russell, Gianni Mimmo, Angelo Contini,Jean Michel Van Schouwburg al murec studio di Milano.

Airchamber trio is an ensemble based on free improvisation, visuals and ready made soundtracks. While coming from different background, we started free-improvising trying to focus our ideas and practice after practice, improvisation after improvisation it soon took shape. We use common instruments like sax, electric cello and electric guitar but were into experimentation, into sound research (...whatever it means) and also into electronics: thats why we process the majority of the sounds through our beloved laptops and/or pedal effects trying to add something to the chemistry of our music. We also use contact microphones to voice whatever it fits well with what were doing, be it a piece of plastic or just the surface of an instruments (is it the real voice of the voiceless in music?). Our electro-acoustic sound is the material that we use for trying to cross-over the musical genres. Were a trio, as suggested by the number at the end of our name, but we may increased the line up (musicians, video-makers, etc.), according to what we/they want to achieve. We worship improvisation and it will remain one of our constitutive elements but not the only one of course. Are we really free?is our music really free?...are we ourselves?...who knowsunder a relativistic perspective to enter the world of improvisation could mean to enter the world of endless possibilities but we still think this extract from Derek Bailey says a lot: "The lack of precision over its [free improvs] naming is, if anything, increased when we come to the thing itself. Diversity is its most consistent characteristic. It has no stylistic or idiomatic commitment. It has no prescribed idiomatic sound. The characteristics of freely improvised music are established only by the sonic-musical identity of the person or persons playing it."

The desire to work on a common “trait d’union†links their apparently far individual cultures and brings them to tread on a shared territory where still each one’s ethnicity maintains its specific characteristics. The quartet reworks ancient chants coming from the swedish tradition, that’s why its peculiar expressive intensity lays in popular roots, focalizing their synergy on emotions that evolves from the suggestion of music and lyrics. Special thanks to Gianni Mimmo for his important and suggestive apport to the work.

Si creano le condizioni per incursioni in terreni sconosciuti, in cui le frontiere fra reale e virtuale si assottigliano, in cui ogni significato è distrutto: piuttosto che affermare un senso stabile e un contenuto preciso, il significato biforca verso direzioni impreviste. Si pone l’accento sull’inatteso, l’istantaneo, piuttosto che sul riconoscimento di certezze acquisite.
La contaminazione dei linguaggi dice la fluttuazione, l’incertezza di un senso che si costruisce mentre si trasforma, in un mondo che è tensione e transito irriducibili. È questa modalità di concepire la realtà che inscrive l’eterogeneità nella rappresentazione, rappresentazione dell’impossibilità di conoscere la realtà e fissarla in forme stabili.
