Singer/songwriters Emma Rugg & Henry Doss embark on a "trans-atlantic/transgenre/transgenerational" tour of the USA
Emma Rugg and Henry Doss Kick-off Directions Tour April 1 in Ashe County, North Carolina -- USA:(Ashe County, NC and Hull, England) -- British singer-songwriter Emma Rugg joins forces with US (North Carolina) musician Henry Doss for the Directions 2007 Tour. The multi-state performance schedule kicks-off on Sunday, April 1, at Jefferson Landing in Jefferson, NC, with a 3:00 p.m. benefit for the Museum of Ashe County History, which is free and open to the public.
Rugg is a rising young singing star in the UK; she’s frequently appeared on BBC Radio. She’s also been featured on BBC One, BBC Three, and ITV, and her music has been reviewed in hundreds of publications. UK Music Search said, “You can’t help but get the impression that this is an artist who has the songwriting skills and sublime vocals to truly be a world class star.”
Emma busked her hometown streets of Hull for six months to raise the cash to record her first CD -- Isolated Impression -- and has subsequently released an EP called Oceans. Her collaboration with Henry Doss began when the two heard one another’s music on the BBC radio show Raw Talent in 2003 and exchanged emails. In a few short weeks, Rugg made the transatlantic flight to the U.S. and the two began their musical friendship. Since then, Rugg has made another recording trip to the U.S., cementing their ongoing partnership. The Directions 2007 Tour is their first live performance venture together; the two will perform all-acoustic versions of their original music, both as solo artists and as a duet.
Doss retired early from a successful banking career with First Union and PNC Financial Services and picked up a guitar again after a nearly 30-year hiatus. His CD Floating Islands placed two songs on the national adult contemporary radio charts, including a #10 hit, “Lies,” which he and Emma will perform on the Directions 2007 tour.
The tour will take Rugg and Doss on a multi-state journey, including performances in Charlotte, Asheville, and Chapel Hill, NC; Johnson City, TN; Fredericksburg, Sterling, Arlington, and Tyson’s Corner VA; Washington, D.C.; Traverse City MI; New York City; New Jersey; and the famed Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. In May, they will conclude their tour with a performance in Rugg’s hometown of Hull in the UK.
