Born in Oakland and on her own since the age of 16, DJ Rapture received a PHD at the School of Hard Knocks. Raising her two younger brothers while Moms worked two jobs helped prepare her for the hard life of a single mother, and helped prepare her for the male dominated music industry.
Since she started messing around on granny's keyboard at the age of 5, a seed was planted and she went on to sing and direct in the church choir. Eventually she started playing the organs and then the drums and she taught herself how to play by ear - all the while studying the industry.
DJs such as Spinderella, Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash were influential in her decision to turn her love/hobby into a profession. After hitting friends with her latest mixtapes (created just for fun), she finally took their advice and copped two turntables and a mixer. In 2003, DJ Rapture was inspired to her dreams and turn it into a reality by becoming a DJ. She was mentored at Fingersnaps, by the legendary DJ Lamont.
In 2005, DJ Rapture started her DJ career in San Rafael's public radio station 88.1 FM. and she started doing shows with local artist Baby James. Scoring a slot on a local radio station enabled her to perfect her skills and blast the latest Hip-Hop and R&B thru the airwaves. This position also enabled her to showcase her turntablist skills at shows with Baby James, with the whole Ghetto Retro click. Her work in the LGBT community, beginning with Coochielicious, has prospered. She's gotten the crowd jumping at Blackout, Mo Butta (2006,2008), Reloaded, Pink Panties, Elumanauty, LIP, Soul Of Pride stage for SF Pride in 2006,2007, 2008 SF Pride Homo Hip Hop stage in 2008 and many other parties around the Bay. She held resident spots at Coochielicious and Club Rimshot. Rapture has jumped all hurdles to achieve her dreams---she is now a a successful DJ and a top notch Paramedic. In mid 2007, Dj Rapture joined up with Mack Misstress and Fresh Vibe Media. Through her life experience she is also a Mother of 2 beautiful boys.
