About Me

Songs. The number one focus for singer/songwriter Kevin Stetz is the songs. To him, songs are the ground floor of music. Arrangements, instrumentation and melody cannot exist without the direct combination of words and music.
In 2005, at the age of 21, Kevin Stetz released his first true album under his own name, following 2004's bedroom experiment The Moon During the Day. Songs for Oxygen was a collection of songs written by a young man lost in a world of love and hate in a country torn at the idea of war and foreign policy. Stetz grew up in the Southern California desert where Gram Parsons found his inspiration and demise. His work on Songs for Oxygen is informed by that time when songwriters shared his concerns of love and war.
Two years later, he's still been at the pen, notebook and guitar, but feels a little less concerned with the politics he attacked on his previous effort. New songs are based on a much personal level, often depicting a Raymond Carver-esque world where nothing really happens, but you still feel intrigued to find out how it all ends.
Walking Antique will be a collection of pictures. Songs showing a young man growing into his twenties and learning that there's a world outside of the fear and confusion of politics. Sometimes its better to look in the mirror than to look into a newspaper.
