Shawntel Gaddy better known as TRIPLE X the Platinum Princess was born in Greenville, Mississippi. As a child TRIPLE X was surrounded by drugs, gangs and poverty. She was moved to Charlotte, North Carolina for a chance at a better life.At the age of 5, she interrupted one of her mother’s gospel tapes and recorded her first verse. Though performing since the age of 6, she did not realize her love for performing until 13, when she rapped her Student Council speech. After seeing the audience’s response, she realized rapping was her gift. She began to sing, dance and step, just to be on the stage. Her performances won her numerous awards, and her popularity came with pain.After enduring years of abusive relationships and isolation, she turned back to her first love, writing. By the age of 22, TRIPLE X was divorced, and a single mother. In 2006 local promoter and friend, Angie Drakeford introduced TRIPLE X (then known as “Mynxxx”) to the studio. Angie then became her manager and went on to produce her first demo. After months of personal frustration, she and Angie parted ways, and TRIPLE X took some time to mature.In December 2007 she came back with the controversial mixtape “To Whom It May Concern.” The release of that mixtape got her recognition from the streets, the industry and the entire southeast, resulting in 2 nominations from the Southern Entertainment Awards (SEA). She was nominated for “Best Freestyle”, and “The Best Slept on Artist of the Year”, both male dominated categories. She then began to saturate the underground scene, with appearances on mixtapes, and collaborations with other artists. She gained notoriety as one of the hottest female emcees in the region. After the release of her second mixtape, “Autobiography” in January 2008, she is now focused on re-recording her demo.The name TRIPLE X means just that. Her lyrics are explicit, hard core and often x-rated, most importantly, raw and real. Beautiful she is, but she is not selling sex. There is no gimmick. The union of suave and finesse have created a gifted Emcee. She is skills, style and grace. Her swagger is incomparable.Her life’s experience allows her to reach anyone who has ever been through something. Her desire is to reach hurt and confused young girls and women. Her music brings healing to the hurt and abused, while allowing her to heal. Her life is her lyrics; and her lyrics are her life.
