Click the logo button below to go to iTunes!Leavin’ Sundown is a band unique among its musical peers by the fact that it is fronted by two powerhouse lead vocalists. Steve Murray, formerly the lead vocalist of Curb Records veterans Perfect Stranger, brings influences ranging from Texas traditionalists like Gary Stewart, Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys to modern day acoustic legends like James Taylor and Mac Macanally. Joe Smith has been on the speed dial of club owners and musicians around the Houston area as a first call session player and on demand sideman for over 20 years. On bass guitar and background vocals, Jim Taylor has performed live with Johnny Rodrigues and Clay Walker and engineered Willie Nelson’s album “Nacogdoches.†Lead guitarist Robbie Lee is the new member of the band. One of the hottest players in the Dallas/Ft Worth music seen, Robbie has decided to move to East Texas to work at the Mixing Room as the main guitar session dude and help us take over the world - one bar and county fair at a time. Leavin’ Sundown’s drummer Jason Pate has toured extensively across the U. S. with Johnny Rodrigues, the Carter Sisters and several regional acts.
During downtime between gigs, Leavin’ Sundown is staying busy writing material for a new album they are recording in Nacogdoches at The Mixing Room. Their sound is best described as traditional country with an edge, drawing on influences of the band as a whole, which include great vocal bands such as the Eagles, Exile, Restless Heart and Diamond Rio, as well as favorites like George Strait, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and Radney Foster.
Leavin’ Sundown is a band made up of seasoned musicians that genuinely like one another and are very supportive of each other on and off stage. Mike, Jim, and Jason have played together in other bands the better part of a decade and have been friends longer than that. The great thing about this on-stage chemistry is that it allows the guys in the band to cut up and joke around with themselves and the audience while still giving a great performance. Crowds are drawn into interacting with the band, which ensures a good time to be had by all. Come see them to find out for yourself how engaging this act can be!
