About Me
Chad Tyson, singer–songwriter, musician, gospel performer…a man on a mission. With a family background cemented in music and the church, Chad’s hard work, charisma and faith are leading him to the spotlight.
Although diagnosed when only five, with the sometimes fatal disease Tuberous Sclerosis, Chad has found that music as his saving grace has also spurred quite a bit of interest in the Nashville music scene. Recently, Chad competed in the acclaimed Nashville Star Search. “There I was singing my heart out and Boom! All my backing tracks stopped….all I knew was to just keep singing… so, I finished up a cappella.†The judges took notice. Not only did Chad win “Best Original Song†but also 1st place as a Country writer and “Best of Show Overallâ€.
Chad Tyson’s family culture, full of church values and work ethic, was instilled from a young age. Chad’s grandfather William Henry Tyson was a pastor for the Pentecostal Church in Greenville, North Carolina. During his days at the church Chad became involved playing a variety of musical instruments including: guitar, piano, trumpet and harmonica. “This is where my Dad grew up singing gospel. Every Sunday, and sometimes during the week, I was involved in the church’s music program. To this day, these remain my fondest childhood memories.â€
The family struggled with Chad’s illness throughout his childhood years. Blindsided, at the young age of five, Chad was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis. Chad’s father Steve recalls that sentimental moment during Chad’s sickness “I can just remember Chad’s eyes when he asked me- ‘Daddy, am I going to die?’ What do you say to your only child in a moment like this? I had to reach deep and tell him the truth. Son, I’m sorry but they say you might not make it.†At that moment Chad’s epiphany came like the angel of light. “I knew from that moment I wanted to write songs with a meaning - songs that would let people know that someone else was out there - someone who knew what it was like to be the underdog who never said die.â€
As the Gospel influence continued to resonate within Chad, his burning desire to perform, envisioned from that cold hospital bed, prepared him for his next steps. This same inspiration, through the years, has led Chad to many opportunities for performance. To date Chad has performed with groups like Gold City, The Greenes, The Dove Brothers, The Mike Speck Trio, The Anchormen Quartet, among others. He fined tuned his performing skills by his rigorous rehearsal / performance schedule while with the Brothers in Christ Quartet and also began exploring songwriting. Most of the songs he wrote were influenced by the powers that be in Country music, artists like, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks and Kenny Chesney. One of Chad’s most memorable songs is called “Living His Dreamâ€; which he composed in the shower one day. The song chronicles his experiences, music and his Dad’s steadfast belief in him.
Chad has recently moved to Nashville intent to hone his craft and further develop his aspirations. “My biggest goal is simple. I just want my music to live on long after I’m dead and gone. To know that I will be able to have an impact on people even after I’m gone is something that is very special to me. Hey look, I’m just a good ole country boy doing what I love to do and hopefully making a change while doing it.â€
