About Me

The story of Davinci’s begins with Scottish born Ian Saint John . A lyrically ambitious singer-songwriter whose beliefs and determination has helped bring to life the most unlikely trio.
With ideas and sounds of the future band clearly established in his mind, Saint John in 2006 teamed up with Danish youngster Casper Christensen - an imaginative folk-influenced pianist who immediately fuelled the singer’s artistic innovations.
Together they brought to life the mellow low key piano-led track ‘Spiritual Friend’ after a sudden death of a friend Ben Bernstein (RIP), the man who encouraged Saint John to appreciate his musical talent and spiritual path. What was to follow was an unbreakable partnership between the pair.
After a period of developing a musical approach of embracing soul tunes, the duo took on Chinese/British guitarist Derek Yau , whose alternative approach to pop-arrangement at long last completed the line-up.
The trio quickly realised that this was never going to be your average band, nor was it going to be the band that each would have dreamt of being in. Still, with varied ethnicities, completely different backgrounds and a combined artillery of the most different influences spanning over soul, folk, blues, jazz, heavy-rock, classical and contemporary music, the band got down to the almost impossible task of making things work - not only musically, but also amongst themselves.
It was to become something of a journey… a journey that would lead them to perform in some of London’s most respectable venues including China White’s , Cuckoo and Sound , and also headline a festival in Geneva. Notably the band played exclusively at the Commonwealth Palace Media Party 2007 . Their song ‘New Generation’ , written for this occasion was so gratefully received, that Hollywood composer John Altman both an Emmy Award and Golden Globe Winner would feature in the recording through a humble string section.
Within the year the trio recorded their debut EP in the renowned Marc Angelo studios in London, working with producers Louis Read (Beautiful South, The Datsons) and Olivier Behzadi (ex Sony A&R head).
Today the band have finally found their feet. Now touring London throughout the spring, the three-piece celebrates diversity in an energetic, uplifting and moving set.
