About Me
Martin J. Fiedler’s career got off to an auspicious start in 1987 at the age of 22 when Krautrock legends, the brothers Peter Wolbrandt and Jan Fride of Kraan, asked him to play bass with them in a trio called Tête Carée. They toured Germany and Switzerland before parting ways in 1988. Fiedler then joined the band Tout Paris, with whom he toured and recorded an album, titled Trial and Error, at Marquee Studios in Southern Germany.Fiedler moved to Berlin to play with well-known band Soil, in 1991. They released the album Fruchtified on the cult German label Big Store. Fruchtified was recorded at Österwind Studio and engineered by Peter Deimel. Soil toured Europe as opening act for Nova Mob, Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart’s band and, after 150 shows, split up. In the meantime, Fiedler had befriended the singer of the band Alan International and together they started Neon Dorn, a trio with guitar, drums and Fiedler for the first time in the role as both bassist and singer. They played shows as support for The Jesus Lizard and recorded an E.P. with Peter Deimel at the reputable Black Box Studios in France. In 1996, after meeting the Australian producers Lindsay Gravina and Dave Thomas in Berlin, Neon Dorn recorded their first full-length album Maze in Berlin and released it on Destroyer Records in Melbourne. Thanks to an extremely positive reception in Australia, the band were invited to record a second album at the legendary Birdland Studios in Melbourne. While downunder, they also toured extensively with Aussie band Magic Dirt.Neon Dorn split in 1997 and Fiedler turned his focus to production work. His first assignment was producing two tracks by internationally renowned DJ and digital hardcore founder, Alec Empire. The tracks, entitled Overlap Scene and The Chinese Narrative Overture, were used as the soundtrack to an independent film Silver Surfer. Over the ensuing years, Fiedler continued producing, engineering and mastering on a freelance basis working with Electronauten, Wagner & Pohl, Telescopes, Mez, Josh T. Pearson and Justin de Vries, among others. On a return visit to Australia in 2000 he met and collaborated with musician James Mason (Nursery Crimes) at Birdland and with Cathy Green (X) and Richard Andrew (Registered Nurse) at Pharmacy Recordings. In 2001, he co-produced the Devastions’ self-titled debut album with Jon Murch at ICM Studios in Prague.Fiedler built his own studio, MJF Studios, in 2004. Since 2006 he has been concurrently developing his own material, primarily piano-based ballads. He began collaborating on the initial seven tracks with Devastations drummer Hugo Cran in 2007. They are aiming to complete recording and mixing of this material for release in late 2009.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
