Fairburn United

About Me

Fairburn United play in the Selby district league division 2 and currently sit proudly on top of the pile, unbeaten in their opening 14 games, winning 13 of the 14 and drawing only once. Fairburn have played at the top level in the first division but were relegated 3 seasons ago and have since been creating a young team which can once again compete with the regions elite. Since relegation, Fairburn have enjoyed slow success in division 2, with a 5th place finish last season just missing out on promotion. However, the 06/07 season provides renued enthusiasm and the fantastic start to the season has lead many people to dream of promotion once again. With players coming from as far as Pontefract, Castleford & Brotherton, fairburn attracts exciting young talent, mixed with some old, more experienced players in order to create the right balance of experience and enthusiasm which is key to a good side. With key players hitting form at the right time such as the pacey striker Josh Lee, scoring an amazing 26 times in only 11 outings, combined with the defensive security in Jamie Wadsworth and marshelled by The ever present Athorn in goal. This allows the midfield to not only defend, but to play flowing, attractive attacking football with the likes of Chris Blackwell & Glen Jackson providing the killer through balls which would be fitting for any team, allowing Josh Lee, along with the bussling Steve Ward to apply the finishes whcih Fairburns team-work deserves.
