When Greg Hall and his production team launched the first Baltimore Comedy Fest years ago, they could only hope it might catch on as an annual event. Since then the BCF and its support of Autism Awareness has continued to grow into something special.
Every spring, dozens of Maryland’s best comedic entertainers join together to fill up a weekend’s worth of performances. The BCF reaches its goal of spreading the battle against Autism through massive media coverage including newspapers, internet support, television and radio. And the money raised from the multiple shows goes to Pathfinders, a local organization dedicated to raising awareness.
“It was very exciting to see this all come together for such a great cause. We’ve had a lot of very unselfish people hit the stage and devote their time to making the BCF something everyone looks forward to,†says Hall.
Past acts have included headliners Kelly Terranova, Doug Powell, Mike Storck and Justin Schelgel, as well as Charm City’s top improv troupes the Early Monday Morning Show and the Screaming Puppets.
This year’s BCF includes more Baltimore favorites such as Mike Aronin, Erin Jackson, Jared Stern, and Jim Meyer. The list keeps building.
Hall, who has been involved in comedy for over 25 years, has an autistic son himself. “For the BCF, doing something that makes some noise and gets people involved in our fight is what drives us. Living with autism is not easy. There’s so little we know and every day can make such a huge difference.â€
