Time for a little update: What does one write in an "About Me"; we are all way too complex and wonderfully faceted that it makes it almost impossible. This is my pathetic attempt. **I am an adopted child of God through Jesus Christ, that is the only thing I boast in, there is nothing beautiful, lovely or pure about me- even as prideful and ego-centric as I am, I cannot deny that if you regard my soul as beautiful, find me lovely in any fashion or believe me pure because of my psuedo-puritan decisions, you have hopefully glimpsed the beauty and wonder of being under the guidance of God's power and grace. **I am a fiance. In loving, I hope I have learned deep and hard lessons that I wish I didn't have to learn, but again, it is only by God's grace that I am redeemed and have the inspiring opportunity to enter into marriage with a man who loves God, loves me and whose attention commands my heart to yield all its reservations; I no longer need to travel longing in loneliness- I have found my world in him. **I am a teacher. I'm equitable and honest and authentic in my classroom, challenging my sophomores to think beyond themselves, beyond the literal, beyond the mundane trappings of their perception of life. I am passionate, I smile often, I ask questions and really listen. I hope they learn about themselves, about literature and moreover, about the tragic and sublime wonder of life. **I am a first-born daughter and older-sister. I try to be good, and diligent and serving, but I am the first-born and the only daughter, therefore I am a prissy, prideful, puritanical princess. I think my family has adjusted well. **I am an active, global, neo-hippie citizen of Earth. Reduce, recycle, reuse. I admire men like Teddy Roosevelt, John Muir, John Wesley Powell, Henry Thoreau, and more transcendentalists who saw the beauty that the natural world demurely displays. They knew that it would take legislation and work to protect our national playgrounds. I seek the solitude of a mountain trail and also the crowded campground of Joshua Tree where transient dirt-bags play on rocks by day and crash out under the myriad of stars pricking across the dark night sky. I plan on climbing every high point in the U.S. with my Tim and I intend on losing myself to the call of the wild as soon as I can let go of my materialistic manners. **And I suppose that is a revelation of my character- the incongruity of Lauren. Always stressed and piling more on her platter while dreaming of ditching society by hitch-hiking across America. The desire to eschew TV and media's de-humanizing grip on the mind, yet picking up celebrity magazines in Barnes & Noble. Insisting that the engagement diamond be conflict-free, but overwhelmingly delighted at its dramatic size. Detoxing and drinking liqufied vegetables all day, just to spend the hours between eleven and midnight decidedly munching pumpkin creme candies comprised entirely of sugar. **Incongruity can be adorable, or laudable. The only whole soul I have ever met is Christ's; and that is the hardest mismatch- my desire to be like him for the sake of God's glory, yet still loving ME, or who I believe I AM. I like who I've become- tender and fierce, passionate and apathetic, stormy and long-suffering, transparent and reclusive, sweet and wicked, kind and cruel, gracious and critical. I only pray that as you know me through the years, you see me become closer to the whole Lauren that I want to be. Taking every temparment and humor that God has given me and surrendering them to Him in hopes that He'll shake free the sin that entangles and bolster the beautiful.
