About Me

Is life getting more complicated, or am I just getting simpler? If you have found your way to this spot in the vastness of cyberspace, then it’s like finding a particular grain of sand on the bottom of the ocean at midnight – strange and curious. What does this CD – ‘Gibberish’ – sound like? Well, other than the title, there are connections that remind me of Ryan Adams stuck inside of Jacksonville without a steel guitar, Cat Stevens with a sense of humor, and Townes Van Zandt in my dreams. Call it acoustic folk rock, if you want to.‘Gibberish’ was recorded in October-November 2006 in Denver, Colorado at Sawtelle Studio (Swallow Hill). Don’t ask me how these little baby songs grew up into such crazy, mixed up music, but it had a lot to do with a bunch of friends with bongos, a cello, guitars, drums, and… was that a gong I heard? My own growing up story is even more convoluted – I was born in a little log cabin in another time and place, raised by wolves, went on to become a product of the Public School System, soldiered in the French Foreign Legion, helped to build the railroads that stitched together this Great Nation of ours like slices of Swiss Cheese, danced the Fandango, and spent many a dark year in the belly of the Beast stoking the fires of… well, you get the idea – a normal up-bringing. Anyway, I know way too much about myself to waste your precious time rattling on and on… suffice to let these songs tell their own stories the way you hear them.Influences: Bob Dylan, Beatles, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, John Sebastian, Paul Simon, Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young, Joni Mitchell, Willis Alan Ramsey.Inspirations: Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), Elliott Smith, Wendy Woo, Rob Drabkin, Lao Tzu.

Vocab - when saying nothing is enough

...is 'indescribable' a description? As in the sentence, "His impression of the Impressionistic painting was 'indescribable'". Or "That cereal is indescribably delicious."
